With this tool you can browse COH2 UI assets.

  • Browse through the images, preview them
  • Extract any image(s)
  • Extract all the images at once (takes about 30 seconds, +5000 images)
    • Generate HTML Doc (handy if you know an image from one of the texture atlases and want to know its name. Click the link for an example of an HTML Doc render.

  • Strongly based on file format info studied with http://www.free-decompiler.com/flash/
  • DDS image handling with http://freeimage.sourceforge.net/

How to extract the contents of UIHigh.sga

Usage:
  • Extract UIHigh.sga somewhere if you already haven't
  • Run the tool
  • Press the ... button and browse to "UI.sga\data\ui\bin\coh2ui.gfx" (where you extracted UIHigh.sga)
  • The tool will automatically process the file for a couple of seconds
  • Done. You are ready to start browsing the icons.
  • To extract selected images, use Control/Shift keys while clicking on the grid view, right-click the grid view and select "Extract"


This tool can also be set as the default viewer for .gfx files (although it only supports the .gfx version used by COH2)

How are the icons stored for ui_cursor related abilities?
For example the
Code
abilities\aef\modal_ability\sp\refuel_tank_sp

uses the modal_refuel when ability is valid.
However the icon wont be found using any of these terms and is stored in your program as
Code
Icons_symbols_building_german_fuel_symbol
among other aliases

Unfortunately cursors are stored outside of the UI in Data.sga/data/art/cursor

Update:

  • Fixed some terrible memory leaks
  • Added "Advanced.." menu
    • "Clear memory": Unloads currently loaded images from the memory.
    • "Load all parent images in memory": Loads all parent images to the memory, makes browsing images a bit faster. Takes around 400 MB of RAM with 118 MB of DDS images.

Yep.

I used your amazing tool quite some months ago. But now I can´t find the UI.sga file you´re speaking about. There are two .sga files in steam/.../CoH2/Archives/ directed to UI: UIHigh.sga and UILow.sga, but I am not able to open these files as archives.

Did I miss something?

UIHigh.sga is the archive to go for.
