People arguing about vocabulary

Game Dev here: The usage of the word hitbox in CoH2 is generally correct but purists will quarrel that it is wrong. The target size/received accuracy in CoH2 is rightful considered as a hitbox in layman terms but the keyword defines a different collision constraint. All the collision stuff all fall into the same English and Game Dev definition as hitbox, despite them not being a box per say, some think of it as spheres, some others as boxes, depending on game engine, entities, and definitions, but for everyday discussions, the term hitbox is generally good enough.

/Offtopic. My intention is to help with information otherwise people will argue about engine schematics, drag things off-topic even further and make things even more convoluting for the sake of just being right, despite them being wrong. This should clarify things and close that subject. I personally don't think there's a requirement to write a thesis or to argue the choice of English words and to derail a thread over vocabulary.

Game basics:

Hit-box and target size are two completely different things.

Target size is used in accuracy check checks.

Hit box is used in collision checks.

Since projectiles do not collide with squad entities they do not have a hit box.

Finally there are no spheres in COH2 hit box are actual rectangular.

Those tech changes feel like a big FU for soviets. Total 200MP to unlock medics, AT nades, indirect fire, weapon upgrades, machine guns, AT gun, fire grenades.

Like bruh how are soviets supposed to play against that. And in the same suggestion list the T70 is nerfed lol.


That’s what happens when you balance based on personal whims and 0 plan or feedback.

Vehicles have a both a hit-box and target size.


Received accuracy. Same sh** different story.

EDIT: Technically, since it's not a FPS and you have no control where the squad aims, hit-box could technically be defined as probability to hit. The whole game is chance based.

Coh2 Hit-Box has a pretty clear definition, it the blue box vehicles have that is hit by projectiles in collision.

You can even actually see it if you run the COH2 tools or if you PC start to fail and you can see some blue boxes.

Can you know give it a rest?

Glad we derailed the entire thread over vocabulary...

I have simply pointed out an incorrect use of the term "hit box."

Other have blow up the whole thing out proportion by claiming that hit box = target size which completely false and confusing for people unaware of that hit box and target size is.

This was never a vocabulary issue. It was a sort simple correction, followed by trolling.
