I think the general sentiment here is that factions should have access to things that do the same thing (light indirect fire, mines, MGs, AT guns, etc.). For the most part, they all do. Brits need some sort of rocket artillery because it's so much better than traditional artillery in coh2. USF has some issues with the non-linear teching and non-doc mines, but the USF stuff is good, like Lemon says.
Asymmetrical balance is good; it makes each faction seem interesting, fun, and new, while (theoretically) not harming gameplay or balance. Ease of access to necessary or extremely helpful tools (snipers, ATguns, etc.) is crucial and often an issue.
Main issue is that when you look at the lower levels of play (anything not in the top 50) Brits tend to play like Axis. When you have two factions that play like axis (more like the wehrmacht, really), OKW gets a huge advantage from its offensive capabilities and Wehrmacht, when played DevM style, can get good map control, something crucial to preventing when playing as USF or Soviets.
Hector has a nice strat using LT and Armor Co. in 1v1s. Should still be up on the rotating stuff on .org's main page.
Tactical Support, as said, is good.
Armor Company is good, especially as a come-back commander or one in urban settings. Assault Engineers let you lay mines just like Infantry/Pershing Commander.
Pershing Commander is good. Plant mines, can go LT and Cpt. tech into Pershing.
Infantry Co. Is good: LMGs, mines; priest isn't so great in 1v1s though.
I really don't like MG spam...particularly against OKW. There are better ways. I just played two matches against higher-ranked Soviets with my OKW (They were 1750ish, I am 2000ish). First match, the guy built 7 MGs (La Gleize Breakout). That may have been because I capped three of them.
Second match (Angoville) my opponent built at least three an MGed the houses on the right. So? Have the right. I'll take left, build LeIGs to make you cry, and then Command Panther and KT. I lost a Luchs, but then he lost two T70s and a AATruck in return. Then my heavy tanks wrecked his T34 spam (four or five T34s killed, no losses).
So what do I fear when I play as OKW from the SU? Well, Shocks, for starters. They make mincemeat out of my guys. Also, a decent use of T70 or AA truck (don't attack shrek blob ON it's heal base). Finally, Katyushas and Tank Destroyers. Oh, and kill the Command Panther before the King Tiger, don't primary the KT.
Yeah, there are a few things that one shouldn't do... Seven Maxims is spam and it's too much. Three is the most I usually build (as you can see in the replay). Below is a replay of me playing against a couple (or three?) Maxims. I was surprised, actually, at the quality of play on the Soviet's part. You can see the ranks in the replay thread.
One thing to consider is that build orders, player knowledge, and skill vary widely between the top twenty, fifty, one hundred, two hundred, etc. For example, in my replay against Choccy on Minsk, I went Maxims into SU76 then IS2.
Most people in the top 200 don't build 7 T34s against a player of equal skill. OKW is quite strong now, and they have a lot of options to apply mid game pressure against the Soviets.
I actually have Razer Tartarus also but I use it for LoL, diablo and other shit I couldn't make it work for coh2 in any way since I used to play SCII with keyboard (almost all binding changed) and Supreme Commander 1/2 with the classic hotkeys also
I'm more interested in knowing peoples opinions on Steam Controller in itself for coh2 and other games
I love it I play Rocket League with it. And Civ 5 but it's a little odd.
Does this thread belong in here? But anyways, does anyone own this or or ever used one? I'm fairly interested to know what people think about this and what good/bad things there are. I wanna know opinions from people here because half of the online reviews are biased or otherwise bullshit
I'm supposed to buy one as soon as I can but I can't tell if it's a good or bad investment
Well, there are some mappings for coh2 on steam. I haven't tried it, nor have I looked into any depth into any of the presets, but there are enough buttons to have grid keys mapped on the controller. It would take a while getting used to, I think. It's certainly possible to use it.
For games like Rocket League, I like it. it works well.
A slight disclaimer, my ranks are not entirely representative of my skill due to the number of times I have been interrupted, disconnected, lagged for half the game etc, but we probably know that about leaderboards already. I play an absolutely abominable machine which frequently has micro freezes, huge input lag and frames that only hit 25 at the absolute tops. I'd like to think i'd be better if I had a good PC but that's probably not true
I would appreciate any feedback apart from "OMFG just upgrade ur pc alredy dude". That can wait.
Giving you moral support for spending money on a new pc, swiftsabre.
Biggest thing on my end is being focused. There are times when I know I could be playing better but i'm not in the right headspace or people just got home and are making noise, or I have to answer the phone, etc. Try to minimize that.
Don't have time for a full-fledged reply for specific strategy but focus is the biggest thing for me, I must say.
hi , if u saw maxim spam u dont need certain commander to deal with it ava make 3volks then medic try to make about 2 isg(leig)think to flank them with volks(grenade)over time u saw no more spam. choose proper doc for urself that u comfortable with it,just know all point and weakpoint about your doc,GL
AVA, here's an example how one beats a maximspam (although...is it really spam? With 6 men a maxim is basically another infantry squad but with an HMG.
Anyway, he fucked up by getting his first maxim killed.
I cut off his fuel
put schwerer on my cutoffs/fuel pt. (although if he had massed AT guns it would be easy for schwerer to be taken out as there was no shot blocker in front of it.
Idk what level of play you're at, but posting replays so people can look at specific problems is good. You can make your own strategy thread with replay(s) attached, or you can make posts in the replay review section so they get some more attention!
ex: I made my own maxim strat thread a few weeks ago: http://www.coh2.org/topic/46666/maxims-in-1v1
Perhaps looking at the how to on the other end can help you solve the issues you're having! Everything suggested previously is great advice and is coming from players better than myself.
