As a non-Alpha tester I am really happy with the changes in this patch. Did they fix everything? No. Did they fix many of the really annoying problems we had before? Yes. Are they continuing to work on the game? Yes.
From my perspective we have Relic with a laundry list of changes that they plan to roll out in time, but in parts. Very clearly this patch is part of a larger plan.
Also keep in mind after OKW was released the game was literally thrown backwards in balance, and we are only now even getting back to a place where the game is balanced. Yes we need 1v1 to be balanced, but you cannot throw the larger game modes out the window. They are fun, and they have more people playing them.
Instead of complaining about a patch, it would be more helpful to just say what you are concerned with and move on. You haven't even gotten to play under this patch.
Cool off forum. |
Pretty sure this unit is straight up amazing right now if you are facing armor. At vet 5 it basically becomes unstoppable and the bonus it gets out of cloak is crazy good.
Unit needs to cloak slower, and cloak should be broken when unit moves forward, rotation would allow it to remain cloaked. It already has TD range (only ISU outranges it) and it has amazing vet. With cloak fixed unit would still be disgusting in good hands, but require good micro. |
Actually, OKW is designed around snowball effect.
Its supported by vet5 system and powerful mid and late game stock units.
It starts rolling small and slow, until it reaches critical mass of vetted infantry with armored support that you can't stop.
OKW is weak in 1v1, because the weakness of the army can be exploited most and both sov and USF have good early game, the longer the game drags, the bigger OKW advantage gets.
That is why among other things, OKW is strongest army in 2v2 and up, where the games last longer and exploiting early game weakness isn't as easy.
Volks are prime example of the OKW snowball design, they start slow, can fight only in numbers only to become vet5 in no time thanks to shrecks and form then on they can effectively fight most units because of scaling. Add other mid to late game units and you have a force that can be contested only if you frequently squad wipe them.
You may excuse it all you want, I call it by its name - bad faction design.
OKW does most certainly have a unique feel in contrast to other armies, but its still flawed at its core.
Buffing and nerfing units adjusts balance of the faction to a point, but it'll always be overpowering late game and underpowered early game as long as it holds to current principles.
I've got to agree entirely with this. The OKW is a fataly flawed faction at its core.
Vet 4 & 5 should die in a fire and the faction rebalanced from there. |
Pak 43 is hard to balance. A potent AT gun, but very vulnerable. Buff it and it becomes so good it pays for itself in the first shot and the Allies could lose just because you made 1. Leave it as is and it stays niche.
The unit should always have been the 88mm and not able to shoot through walls. That way its vet 1 would have been a barrage ability.
In any case, Pak 43 is a niche device, you use it only in certain situations. This unit is not for every game.
For instance, if you see your opponent going with Guard motor consider going this doc getting a Stuka and then using Pak 43 to stop T34-85's. Use the Stuka to destroy 120's, and then make him desperate to avoid tech. That will force him into a situation where he has to back tech to T4 to get Kats. At this point you win. If Wehr, why did you not go for a tiger doc?
In team games build one as you lock down a VP. Consider placing it a little way from your base and turn it away from combat. When his tanks roll in spin it back around. They will be so far into the firing arc they will lose one for sure. At that point you win because you paid for the 43. Any more damage you do is icing on the cake.
The Pak 43 is not going to get vet 5. If it did your opponent would need to be terrible and you would too, since you could not exploit destroying multiple tanks without losing a single unit. |
Moving out from smoke of Stuka has minimum effect because it tracks. Go ahead and load up cheat mod and see. Use the CAS strafe if you like and you will see it also tracks (although only slightly), but the loiter Stuka is on the hunt and nearly undodgeable. These things are extremely good for cost and too effective on the field. Planes should provide a good player an opportunity to turn a battle, not click and destroy target tank.
In larger games Stuka strafe is out right ridiculous in effectiveness. In smaller games if you don't have AA (because you might not as Sov) GL.
Also plane crashes are stupid. |
Making them absolutely reliable in placement, like Smoke Bombs, would be nice too. I remember a long time ago placing a smoke barrage in front of an MG crew only to find it could still shoot at my units right on its center...that was embarrassing.
Wow...this bug.
But seriously improvements on smoke would be really nice. Placement and speed of fire should be drastically increased. I need smoke at a location within 10 secs or its not worth it. The longer I spend setting up an attack the more likely I am to be seen so it needs to be quick, since I may not attack exactly where smoke is, I might just use it to distract a player. |
German smoke (and smoke on the Scott and UC) are dumb. They should take time to activate so that it does protect the tank, but not so that you can get down to tiny bits of health and then just escape.
Attack ground is ok, but you lose all the bonuses of shooting at a target so smoke still makes it more unlikey you will kill the tank. Blitz should only work in forward gear.
Sherman smoke is very different from Tactical smoke and is not as good. It is still useful, but is far more niche. Actually never seen it used before an attack because the range on it is not far enough to keep Sherman back and it fires too slowly to cover and area quickly. Still ok to cover retreating units, but not as good as good as tac smoke. |
There should be no chance for heavy engine damage from non-specialist mines. If you get heavy damage you basically lose the tank, and it takes no more skill on the part of the player placing the mines unless they are specialized mines. Plays too much into RNG.
Riegels and other such mines might deserve their heavy crits because they are designed solely to deal with tanks. |
Yes back to the topic. So a lot of people scoffed at my parameters for this post (which was win streak) to show some general data for 4v4 since recent changes. Naturally, allied fan boys argued that this was inconclusive data because streaks are changing every minute and it could be different one day to the next (basically anything to minimize the point). Well its been a few weeks now so here's another update:
Allied winstreaks increased to an average of 26.2 from 23.1
Axis winstreaks decreased to an average of 12.1 from 12.7
Allies have slowly increased.
Axis have slowly decreased week by week.
People will defend their faction but for those who enjoy all aspects of 4v4, there is clearly a change in the landscape.
This deals with one of the serious methods flaws in the original but fails to address the larger overall problem. You have no control groups. You are assuming that Allies player = Axis player, you have no way to test this. You are also assuming that win streaks = Ability to win games, which again is not logical.
I agree win streaks provide insight into a faction, but in larger team games you need the data Relic collect or it means very little. |
It sounds like you are looking to do mostly camping and traveling. Any of the many national parks (or as many as you can visit) will provide many excellent things to do.
DC and New York are both loaded with museums. You could probably spend months at both locations just visiting those. While in NY I would strongly recommend visiting the American Museum of Natural History. Of course there is the Met, which is probably also a top visit. I would also recommend visiting the USS Intrepid, which sits moored in the Hudson River. You are also going to pass through Philadelphia, our original capital and you will find plenty to do there as well, besides great food. Check out the waterfront as well as the historic district. If you want you can cross the Delaware River and see the USS New Jersey, which is now a museum.
If you have time, I would also recommend visiting Boston. Another great city, and a huge number of things to see and visit.
As you travel across the country, if you are in a car, make sure you stop in Denver, CO. This is a very nice city and is the "Gateway to the West" There is lots to do there. Keep in mind the distances you are traveling by car will take a long time.
By the time you get to the West Coast you may be exhausted but Seattle is an amazing place. The seafood is unbelievably good, shipped overnight from Alaska, and there are lots of cool things to see. If you are there make sure to visit the Boeing Museum, producer of the mighty B-17. |
