If you attempt to run very demanding effects with the CPU it will cause slowdown, which is unsurprising since GPUs are much better at certain kinds of physics calculations, hence why they are programmed to be GPU accelerated in the first place. There were accusations that certain implementation were deliberately inefficient to promote GPU sales or something in The Witcher 3 for its hair+fur effects. Although the comparisons where they said "they could do this in a much less performance intensive way if they halved the number of joints per hair strand!" were very spurious because they compared two static images as their "proof" when the whole point of the technology is to get hair that moves realistically, swaying in the wind and such. The vast majority of physX games are ones where people don't even realise it's being used (see: this thread), so it's safe to say that in general the library is quite efficient for what it does most of the time. If you're concerned that the HairWorks or some other specific subsystem aren't being used optimally, no developer is required to use that. Nvidia released the PhysX source code for free to anyone who wants it last year, so nobody can complain that it's a black box anymore. They must have fixed it then. I remember looking into it like ~8 years ago and there were issues like it being completely singlethreaded and using inefficient execution paths (Kind of like the intel compiler debacle on AMD hardware.) to basically make CPU usage unviable. This is also why originally they were able to build sandbags, because they need cover to be effective. Giving CoH1 sandbags to all the new factions is the dumbest thing in the game. PPSH scales them pretty well though in terms of fighting power. If you're running something like NKVD that doesn't have call ins, you're gonna want to use lots of support weapons instead of mass conscript. In: COH2 Balance

I don't know what level you play at, but I'd advise you to play a top 50 brit player who uses this strat and you will quickly find out why they don't work. Sure it does. Mortar pit won't stop you from capping , stand on the edge of the cap zone and he has zero vision of you. Once you neutralize the territory it's irrelevant. Bofors barrage has a relatively small Aoe and you can avoid it if you are paying attention due to the long time it takes for it to hit. Getting the first bofors up requires him to win atleast two engagements. Once he DOES get it up you do need to pull back and play defensively. Keep in mind that the bofors can only cover a relatively small area with its attack and a medium one with the barrage. (Which requires a unit inside the bofors or for him to spend 250 manpower on a forward assembly.) Essentially, that's two squads worth of manpower committed defensively. You can leverage that ~500 manpower differential to overwhelm him elsewhere on the map. I mostly play players in the top 100-200, although admittedly I haven't played a ton of games against this sort of strategy. In: COH2 Balance
Thread: How to beat super-aggressive Ostheer30 Mar 2016, 04:28 AM Bren carrier is a solid option for getting your units out of suppression, pressuring the sniper and even backcapping with weak squads instead of reinforcing them. For the 222 you really should get PIATs instead of the AT gun. With a bit of micro it's pretty easy to hit the 222 due to its huge model and wonky turning rate. (Anytime it rounds a corner it stops to a crawl.) What I would recommend is 2 tommies and a bren, tech up and get a sapper and unlock weapon racks. PIAT distribution you have a few options, but I would suggest doing 1 per tommy so you don't reduce their combat effectiveness too much and have room for a bren later. Plus spreading out AT makes it much harder for your opponent to find a weak point to hit with their light vehicles. (Same principle applies with bazookas or panzerschrecks.) After that you can do whatever. Tactics still matter. Pressuring him so he can't attack you, or taking advantage of garrisons, are both reasonable options. The big takeaway here is "USE FUCKING PIATS" because people seem to forget them as an option entirely. In: UKF Strategies
Thread: OKW Command Panther veterancy is a bit broken30 Mar 2016, 04:05 AM I think one of the simplest solution would be to reduce its combat effectiveness. Same with command PzIV. Stuff like longer reload and slower base movement speed when compared to the regular variety units. Kind of like the brit command vehicle debuffs. In the current state, they're basically just super versions of the regular units that don't have tech dependency. The aura being strong isn't nearly as big of a deal if the unit itself is much less capable of defending itself. In: COH2 Balance
Thread: Improved Emplacements Commander30 Mar 2016, 02:15 AM Just be aggressive. Mortar pit has a generous minimum range and bofors takes a fair amount of time to build. Just keep your map presence and don't let him get too entrenched easily. If he does start to get entrenched, cap around him and focus on tech. Brummbar or Jp4 will chew up emplacements very quickly. The only thing you really have to worry about is a 17lber but in my experience most players don't build them in favour of an AT gun or two and more bofors/mortars. In: COH2 Balance
