I would imagine that if you judge strategies based on whether or not it's possible to beat them, you won't find very many that would satisfy you. Virtually all of them are beatable. That said, attempting to overcome assgrens by simply building up a massive blob of conscripts feels risky. A more skillful player that would do better at dodging molotovs and keep his units concentrated, could bleed the soviet player a lot. Granted, the more intense and direct the battles, the easier it is for soviets to get 2CPs and subsequently equip their conscripts with PPshs,which levels the playing field considerably, but I still don't like it very much. Going early maxims feels like a more elegant solution to me, but it is a matter of opinion I suppose. In: Replays
Thread: R3G2: AndyisRIPPIN vs. GeneralGIAP3 Nov 2013, 20:13 PM Just one question Andy: you were just a quarter of CP away from a KV-1, yet you chose to build T3 to get a T-34. Overall, it cost you more time and resources and you got a tank that was much weaker against PIVs than a KV-1. Did you do it on purpose because you dislike KV-1s or did you just forget about them? Thread: Clash of Titans - Hansi vs VonIvan15 Oct 2013, 23:11 PM Jump back to quoted post15 Oct 2013, 22:41 PMEkko Tek Ivan lost too many squads and threw away his FHT in base early (maybe going for the jugular hoping for a quick win?) but it still didn't matter (there were missteps on Hans' part as well) because what it came down to in the end after the last all-in tank battle, was 2 vetted PIVs of Ivan's still standing, vs. none on Hans' side. The dropped shreks on vetted infantry (vet 3 shocks, vet 2 or 3 cons) allowed Hans to finish off those two tanks, rather than allow them to be repaired. If Ivan had 2 vetted PIVs still in the game, he would've had a good chance at winning. There is so much RNG in CoH2 that it seems like it is bound to affect the outcome in most tight games of equal play on each side. Agreed on very entertaining to watch though. What I meant was that at that point VonIvan had to commit two panzerschreck squads to an infantry battle simply because he had no other infantry at all, except for some vanilla pioneers that were busy repairing. He literally had no boots on the ground to fight with and the loss of schrecks was just the consequence. I'm also not certain that without those schrecks Hans couldn't win. He had such an overwhelming advantage in infantry, that he could probably win it anyway by simply using AT guns and perhaps a SU85 to keep tanks at bay. In: Replays

He stomped Hans 3 times in row before this game with those. I think this game came down to infantry unit preservation in general. +1 Dropping schrecks was just the end result of a long series of engagements where VonIvan kept losing his infantry squads. In effect, his army was not only much smaller but also unvetted, which eventually decided the outcome. As for going for lmg grens instead of a halftrack - it could be argued that either might have worked if the halftrack was actually used to dominate the map instead of being thrown away to no effect by rushing the base. You can run old patch replays by backing up your game files before patching your game, then reverting them and running Steam in offlinemode to block the update prompt. That's a real shame, since the one you picked for casting was probably the worst of the three - both when it comes to the entertainment and educational value... In: Replays
