Commanders are supplemental, not required. Your right, the Soviets and Ostheer are the most well rounded factions, I guess I should have qualified my statement by saying "Since WFA". Doesn't change my initial point. Soviets and Ostheer suffer from massive commander bloat and both factions have had several different commanders that disrupted balance for several patch iterations before finally being balanced out. Relic designed coh2 to supplement holes in faction design with commanders that are only reliably accessible through purchase. For example: Access to flamers locked behind commanders for UKF, USF, and OKW. The Calliope, Land Mattress, Pershing all filling major holes in their respective factions. It can be argued that new commanders keep the game "fresh" but they have mostly diluted the game because so many have been largely useless/bloated from release. Others require players to purchase to keep up with the FOTM strats until they are nerfed (see OP). This has been discussed for years. This is baked into the design of coh2 and has been the root of 3 years of New content > balance shitstorm > balance patch > more new content. In: COH2 Balance

Thread: Map Pool Bug26 Feb 2016, 07:44 AM This explains why my Royal Engies ended up with 4 flamers on the squad against the poor bastard I played on Stalingrad. 100% Stalingrad matchmaking with free flamers on my Royal Engies, I could sit here all night and get free wins due to buying the newest commander and taking advantage of the most recent bug. It's a fucking joke. This is beyond laughable and is unacceptable for a game that is currently attempting to make a name for itself in the e-sports scene. It took me ONE MATCH to notice this bug. I wasn't sure what exactly I was getting into when I started reading this as it feels like a tabloid piece, but there are actually some interesting parallels to be made about being a fan of the Company of Heroes franchise in this article. Even though the OPs post has fuck all to do with coh2 directly, there are aspects of this article that I think most of the long time Relic fans can identify with. In terms of getting frustrated with the game, I'm at the "You Let Go" phase. I still love the game, but i'm done being frustrated by it. Give everyone a couple of years with this game and they will pass through all the stages of frustration and finally reach the point that take their lumps with this game because it's the best we've got in the genre.
