They didn't say they were removing, just changing it. Maybe you won't be able to activate it while in combat so you can only use it aggresively. Either way I'm sure it will still help fight SUs. Overdrive is MEANT to be used as an escape ability to get away from tanks. It's low health and easily taken out quickly by any AT so it's not that big of a deal. Though I'm not saying it might not to be changed. Blitz on the other hand was meant to be used as a offensive ability to help flank SU-85s and anti-tank guns. The problem is it was mainly used to escape bad situations where they should have been destroyed otherwise. Considering that most german tanks are already very durable and smoke is really supposed to be their defensive skill it gave them much more survivabilty then the developers intended. Thread: Howitzer Balance18 Apr 2014, 00:05 AM Yes, artillery in general is pretty useless. They are valued way high for being able to attack the enemy base, while their use in actual battle is crappy, vulnerable, and expensive. I think I'd much rather they cut the range so it couldn't barrage the enemy base from within your own base and then made it fire faster and the rounds hit faster and sell it for 400mp. Would make it less of investment for something that gets killed so easily and increase it's use in battle. In: COH2 Balance
Thread: Howitzer Balance17 Apr 2014, 17:09 PM This is something I've been wanting to talk about for a while now. The german artillery outperforms the soviet one for a number of reasons. 1. German late game is rather mobile while the Soviets get more static in the late game(Artillery is late game only). 2. German artillery fires more rounds faster increasing the likely hood of hitting something and denying area to the enemy while the soviets give far more time to leave the area between shots and the less rounds can often lead to not hitting anything important(I've often had barrages leave bunkers and other artillery untouched atleast 50% of the time even when well aimed while the german one is almost garinteed to hit something.). 3.German artillery due to its more shells can easily assure a kill when trying to counter arty while the soviet strugles hitting the other. At vet 1 the soviet one does become very good at counter arty but so does the german one. If usually comes down to who fires first. (Counter barrage does far better on the Lefh then any other german unit that has it). In short, I just don't see how its stronger shells make up for the fact the reload rate is so high, especially since the german artillery firing more shells seems to make up for it plenty.
