Secondarily, and von-manstein's point... If the only way to survive a team game against Russians is to ALWAYS SKIP AN ENTIRE TIER please explain to me how this makes sense?!? That's three units that I will never ever ever build? Where's the variance of technique and strategies? The game will cease to be fun with every game becoming a clone of itself. No, what makes RTS challenging and fun is not knowing what you are going to see and conversely being able to have options in how you play. Rock Paper Scissors is a perfect example. How fun would it be if Rock (Snipers) could beat Paper AND scissors?
I don't play team games often (mostly 1v1 automatch), but I am not advocating skipping T1 every time you play as a condition to win.
The reason your assumption that team games are a perfect method to balance 1v1 is flawed is that team games allow unit compositions that are impossible in a 1v1. It's possible based on build order, teching order, and commander choice of each team member to arrive at an optimal force mix that would be impossible to implement in a 1v1 game. |
Have you tried skipping T1 as the Germans? You can get a PzGren squad and a scout car out in under 5:00 doing that.
The German T2 is full of good counters for anything that the soviets can produce from their T1 building, and if you need indirect fire, the mortar half-track is now a 1CP unit.
As to the mine, you were just unlucky. It can happen to anyone, including the soviet sniper car. |
You wouldn't be behind. You just back-tech. Conscripts with PPSH and Hit the Dirt can deal with the first wave of PG's then you build the tank building get an SU-85 out then build a support building for Maxims. Or another way don't build a support building at all and spam snipers, they cost the same as PG's. 3 sniper squads backing up Conscripts with HTD is lethal.
All good points. I normally use the Mortar halftrack incendiary barrage on HTD conscripts if I've picked one of the doctrines with it. Otherwise flame halftrack or flame pios are a good counter.
In my experience the fast T2 Pzgren spam doesn't work if your opponent gets a fast T70 or gets shocks + SU-85. |
I usually start with 2 grens 1 MG, 1 gren then tech to T2. At that point my builds are situational based on what I've noticed from my opponent. AKA is he spamming conscripts, did he go T1 or T2 etc.
The Riegel mine and a supported PIV can really mess up an SU-85. Especially if your PIV has vet so that you can use blitzkrieg and smoke to get in behind him fast. If you have good indirect fire options you can force his support away (incendiary barrage is great for this). |
Dev said: Panzer 4 accuracy vs tanks should remain roughly the same, scatter mainly affects anti-infantry.
The P4 still rocks every tank besides the SU-85, and I'm not sure that the increased scatter range against infantry is going to remotely even things out in terms of balance. Damage per shot wasn't touched, which is the main issue imo.
What exactly is the issue with the damage per shot? The PZIV is supposed to be good vs other medium tanks (the T34/76 and T34/85) and decent vs infantry. The T34 is the opposite, good vs infantry and decent vs medium tanks.
So in this patch, the devs have decreased the PZ1V's ai making it less viable as the only tier 3/4 purchase for Ost. Now you need to have more combined arms instead of spamming the PZIV.
Complaining that the T-34 sucks against the PZIV is a waste of time, because it is not supposed to counter the PZIV in this game. |
What I Dont like is how my own conscripts shout out grenade when Im throwing a Molotov that messes me up everytime.
This really annoys me, because I never know if it's me or the opponent or both who are using a grenade. |
It only works well if the player doesn't change his strategy to meet the threat. When facing 1 or 2 PG's I use a couple of snipers, but when I start seeing 3 PG squads I see what's happening, build a Support building and bring out Maxims. They destroy PG's. And if I see loads of Pioneers about early that's a dead give away that you're gonna get spammed by PG's.
I got PG spammed once and lost only because I never changed my strategy. That was a hard lesson learnt. PG spam used to worry me now I say bring it on as it's so easy to counter with Maxims and I love that the player is using all his manpower while dying to my snipers and cheap to build Maxims.
Oh and the free PanzerShreks for my units is a nice bonus. Play me with your strat I'm up for it.
If you built both T-1 and T-2 as soviets you are going to be way behind the tech curve when your opponent gets a PZIV before you can even build your T-3 or T-4 building. Personally if I was going to fast T-2 I wouldn't just spam PzGrens, I'd add a flamer halftrack or upgunned 222 depending on whether or not I see scout cars or lots of support weapons. |
maybe you should cap a munitions point?
Serious question: Have you ever played a 1v1 as Ost? |
An MG42 is 60 munitions. If you get it at the start you leave yourself vulnerable to vehicles and buildings.
Also, just because you can get something soon in the game doesn't mean it's not designed to make your unit scale.
And yes, any unit that picks up the DP-28 can button vehicles.
Exactly. If you are spending 60 munitions each on upgrading grens with LMG42s, then you wont have the munitions necessary for very important counters like flame thrower upgrade to the halftrack, teller/riegel mines, sdkfz 222 upgun, etc. Spending munitions on LMGs as OST means that you are forgoeing other options. As a soviet player, if you see multiple gren squads with LMGs you should be thinking that this guy can't afford to counter weapons teams or light vehicles because of all the munitions he's spent on upgrades that are primarily focused on killing conscripts. |
At least the soviet AT gun isn't that bad. Sure it has a low rate of fire which makes it easier for tanks to circle them, but if you can support them, they are quite adequate (i.e. AT-nade the tank, or button it etc.) There is a bulletin that decreases reload time, and increases accuracy if I am not mistaken. If you plan to make extensive use of ATGs it would probably be wise to select it. |
