It was the first change that I made in the Mod Tools, and I was amazed at how nicely the change impacted the game.

Ostheer finally had a decently survivable infantry unit and it wasn't that much more powerful. And besides, the Ostheer still had to pay for it. The squad's cost was 280 manpower, it took longer to build, and the extra entity to reinforce added up. Interestingly enough, they were amazingly more resilient (but certainly not immune) to being wiped in a single shell blast.

All it was was a single value change, and man did it seriously improve the sense of balance.

As such, I decided I would make a very simple mod so that people can see for themselves.

It changes two whole values. It increases the squad loadout of Grenadier squads from 4 to 5, and the Grenadiers that come with an lmg42 in a halftrack from 4 to 5.

I know I could argue up and down as to what changes should or shouldn't be made to balance CoH2, like I have many a time since beta, but I'd rather just make an easy, straightforward and accessible mod so people can just try for themselves how the change might actually impact the game.

While I honestly think this is a change that Relic should consider for the Ostheer, what do you all think? Especially from those people that exclusively play a single faction or side.

Most of my friends on Steam have bought CoH2 at some point. Only a handful actually ever play it, and the rest take heavy convincing to even try a match or two. I can't even get my original vCoH buddies to play a 1v1 in CoH2. People that have tried the game know that it's more than some number tweaks away from being the game they bought/were advertised.

I'm fairly certain I will be hard pressed to convince any of them to try or buy any future Relic games/releases.

At least we have Mod Tools. I mean, I still play OMGMod from time to time.

All it has to do is deal less damage to units in cover.

Units out of cover don't bunch up nearly as much to get wiped as easily, and units on the move are much harder to hit with the canister shot.

Units and blobs all mashing up on each other as they path around corners has nothing to do with Canister shot.

The things just aren't durable enough to be worth the 80 fuel.

I remember StuGs in CoH1 being nasty beasts with good armor and strong guns, but a single m8 could kill one because they had no turret.

The dynamics between assault guns and tanks is very much muddied in CoH2.

Actually, one of the most powerful thing that volksgrenadiers get are their passive healing at vet 3. The ability to keep a squad on the field without 3 of them being a cool breeze away from dying and NOT having to retreat to base is an incredible boon.

The 40% sight range and two 30% accuracy boosts aren't too shabby either. Being able to shoot at maximum weapon range and have a good chance to hit is a quality shared by very few, if any, units in the game.
