I find it interesting that the scatter values seem so important to people the way they currently function. Right now the main purpose of scatter is to simulate accuracy and to make up for the fact that there is no side armor.

Scatter is the mechanic that is currently in place to make shots to the sides of tanks function dynamically without there actually being side armor. It's what makes multiple shots from the same position have different results depending on unit facing. (The whole, 50/50 front/rear shot from the side thing.)

I still maintain that there is no good reason that there isn't side armor. The only real reason is that there is already a kludge in place. That should never be a permanent solution, but this is Relic we are talking about.

It is also a lot easier to keep a single entity with 86 health alive and maneuvering through cover than a team of 2 entities with half the health.

I still find it comical that we have Soviets and Americans fighting alongside each other.

OKW and USF are only marginally balanced to fight each other. Soviets and Wehrmacht are also, likewise, only designed around fighting each other as well. They synergize with each other well, but the balance starts to fray when the original factions face WFA factions.

Just like Opposing fronts: The two allied factions synergized well, and the two axis factions synergized well with each other in team games. Brits and PE were designed to fight each other and US and Wehr were designed to fight each other. And both Brit v Wehr and Ami v PE were seemingly overlooked and were incredibly gimmicky and imbalanced matchups.

Map design is huge for a game like Company of Heroes. It is an often hidden and usually overlooked component of how the game plays and feels.

A great deal of frustration results from one strategy being incredibly effective on one map and absolutely useless on others. It's something that can extensively change a player's experience and sense of skill in the game, and it's usually completely ignored.

Combine that with COH2's map design and resource/territory mechanics being a mere shadow of its former self from vCoH, and you have a setting where even the most balanced and dynamic of matchups will feel frustrating and linear.

Right now the problem with CAS isn't so much with the abilities themselves as it is with the fuel to munitions conversion. Since it converts into 150 munitions instantly, using the ability almost invariably enables the use of any of the CAS abilities instantly, barring cooldown.

The AT strafe is a little powerful, especially considering the Sturmovik equivalent just bounces off of armor and can't even kill an idle stuka HT. But that's just the comparison and more indicative of Sturmovik being too weak than it says anything about the single pass AT strafe in CAS.

Were the munitions dropped from a plane like Luftwaffe drops, it would firstly slow it down so it's not an instant freebie to use an ability. Additionally, it requires there to be units to actually collect the resources, which further slows down the transfer of resources, but requires some kind of micro from units on the field.

Although, keep in mind, the munitions dropping also opens up the chance that players could steal/give the drops. If you think a CAS ostheer with OKW is rough, imagine having those 150 munitions drop for their OKW ally. OKW could perma convert their munis to fuel and probably still end up with more munitions.
