Btw I think that the new volks upgrade from that doctrine is too lackluster compared to the normal Stg44 package.
While a volks squad with 2x Stg44 is very solid on any range, 5x MP40 does amazing at close range only. At any other range, it is drastically worse compared to Stg44 package(even on close range the stg44 upgrade does very good). A lot of times, the volks squad already lost 1 or 2 models until they reached the effective range of the MP40, and in CoH2 we still have a (lmg-) A-move meta, so this is obviously a huge disadvantage of this upgrade.
The smoke grenades are pretty neat, but it doesnt really help with the issues mentioned above. Assault grenadiers from Wehrmacht have the same problem, but they can bypass it to a certain degree with their sprint burst ability. So maybe this upgrade should also unlock access to a 10 ammo 5 seconds sprint ability for volks? This might be too powerful because volks also got access to snares, but there are additional options like adding 5 seconds of exhaustion after their 5 sec sprint to that ability (similar to "Fire Up" from USF Rifle Company)
