Lemme just throw your negatives out the window
-Katanas would belong to officers who also carried SMGs and side arms in the war. They would lead charges similar to oorah, also the more using the charge simultaneously the more bonuses they get. If you've played the FPS Red Orchestra 2 you'd know what I mean.
-Turtle strats? Bahahaha! NO! With a Non-heavy, lots of infantry type Army you'd need to focus on map control and beating the enemy early-midgame. Think USF.
- Coh2 has no Navy? Do they have arty guns magically hidden somewhere? Navy would simply be their off-map artillery. Seriously though haha, that one was so lazy.
- Obsolete medium armor. All just needs to be balanced in like any other vehicle. Ostwind barely saw production, KT etc. Yet you can build those... They would have lots of light vehicles, transports, and medium tanks.
- No Heavy armor? Oh that was the USF for the first 2 years wasn't it HAHAHA. Wasn't a problem then, Pershing was just icing on the cake and wanted by the fans. If you really wanted a heavy it would be a looted Jumbo Sherman stolen from USF and camo'd by the Japs.
As you can see nothing you've posted can't be easily solved. Not only would their army be far more unique than the Italians, it'd be much more fun to play. Not to mention the awesome commanders that would come to the Allies in the Pacific. Oh, and maps.
Afrika Korp and Italians are German Commanders for sure. Not Full Armies
Lemme throw them back in.
-Katanas: no melee, pointless to have other than for A E S T H E T I C S
-Turtle strats: referring to how they actually fought irl with tunnels and bunkers
-Naval engagements made up a lot of the Pacific theater and to relegate it to just off-map would be doing the Pacific theater an injustice
-Obsolete medium armor WITH no heavy armor is hell to play. Ever try fighting in the late game with only light vehicles? Ever like it?
-Still no unit preservation |
I think that the Panzer Elite role is already sort of filled by OKW. Just swap PanzerGrens with Sturmpios and you basically get the same thing: tough (enough) and versatile infantry that can also repair, while also having the heaviest armor in the game.
I like the idea of including Germany's smaller allies, although I think you are including too many of them. I feel like if there is a new faction, it should be focused on the allied invasion of Italy, which happens in late '43, and therefore fits well with the current timeline of the game. Italy and its remnants were by far the most cooperative and influential (not saying too much) of any of Germany's allies in WWII up until the end of the war. It could be like the Afrika Korps in composition, but it'll fit far better in the timeline.
The PzI is a no-go,(Pz1s were never used in after 1941 outside of training crews and towing guns), but why not use the equally obsolete Carro Armato L3/35 tankette? It'll basically do the same thing, anti-infantry light armor, except it's a casemate fixed-gun design and it doesn't come from Germany. On the subject of casemates, the faction could also have StuG equivalents with Semovente da 75/xx. Variety!
Mainline infantry could be members of the Royal Italian Army, which was actually pretty large, which could be non-doctrinal 6-man squads for Axis(!). Some call in ideas could be the rare Italian P40 "heavy" (was really a medium in armor/weapons/weight) tank, which in-game might be less effective but comes earlier than a PzIV. The Italians were also among the pioneers for paratroopers, so Paracadutisti could be a unique and fun unit.
Of course, the Germans would be lending some of their own troops as a helping hand, but at least it's not a 100% or even 80% German faction. Italy lacks medium armor, but the Germans can supplant this, since we're looking at a German/Italian split. It's also a great opportunity to throw in a few dearly-wanted units, such as some other SdKfz 234 variants, Pantherturm, or even the Bergetiger. |
Repost of why we shouldn't do Japan:
Japan:
+more axis light tanks
+6 man squads maybe
+an actual navy
+axis demos
+katanas
-katanas
-turtle strats
-CoH2 has no navy
-no unit preservation ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
-obsolete medium "armor"
-a complete lack of heavy armor
*players who believe in glorious Nippon steel might think otherwise
Japan lacks a lot of essential parts to be a proper CoH2 mainstay. It's main strength was its navy and airforce, while CoH is a land-based theater. It's anti-tank capability revolved around woefully unreliable methods compared to other factions, and its own armor is at best late 20's technology. Japan has nowhere enough manpower or industry to compete with any of the other factions. Politically, Japan never coordinated anything with Germany, either.
TL;DR: Japan is not for CoH2
I'd much rather see an German-Italian joint faction based on the defending forces during the allied invasion of Italy in late '43 (PANTHERTURMS!!), as it fits better with the European theatre of war and the timeline. I'd even take Afrika Korps, although those don't fit so well with the timeline. But no Japan.
I do agree though that Relic does need to step up its support for the game. Having the community doing all of its work is lazy, and even then it doesn't actually listen to the community on which changes are urgent enough to be addressed (#scope). |
I LOL'd at the OP.
Japan is not viable for "Obvious Reasons"
I don't get the hate that against this faction when it'd be SUPER unique and totally different style for the Axis.
Get it done Relic

"display" , "usage" and "usage_and_display" What's the difference between them,may I ask?
When the requirements aren't met, usage will simply gray out the ability and prevent you from using it. On the other hand, usage_and_display will not let you use the ability and will not even display the ability button/icon. The latter is mainly useful for keeping the command card clean for when a unit has a mutually exclusive upgrade that grants specific abilities. An example of such an ability that uses the usage_and_display is the OKW minesweeper toggle which only shows up after the Support Package upgrade.
I'm not sure what display would entail, other than not showing the button/icon. I don't know if the ability responds to the assigned hotkey if it's not visible, since I never tried it myself. |
No, I am talking about the HQs themselves. It's the most obvious with OKW HQ; the truck's front always points away from the battlefield. While that could be excusable as the truck is supposedly mobile, the EFA HQs seem to be command bunkers, and have a window for an MG. This window, likewise, also always faces away from the battlefield, which makes absolutely no sense. It would seem only UKF and USF have their bases facing toward the battlefield. |
It's always bothered me how the base building for some factions (Soviets, Both Axis) is always facing away from the actual battlefield. Is there a way to rotate it in a tuning pack? |
PS: Would it be possible to create a new thread for every question you ask? That way other modmakers that want to have the same questions answered could find the same answers easier
Sure, no problem!
Thanks for all the pointers you guys have given me! |
G43s without scopes?
Wondering since there's UI files for G43s without scopes, but I can't seem to get a scopeless G43 in the NIS editor. I tried both variety_names off and on and nothing really changes. If someone else has better luck, let me know.
Squad name changes?
Is there a way to change a squad's name or description after an upgrade?
Permanent weapon switching?
I'm trying to add a weapon upgrade that switches the primary weapons of the whole squad and I'd like to not bloat the squad with slot items. I assigned a second hardpoint and tried making them switch weapons from hardpoint 1 to hardpoint 2. However, the change is not permanent, and reinforcements come equipped with hardpoint 1 again. Is there a way to force hardpoint 2 on reinforcements to the squad or is slot items the only way?
Forcing special skins?
Where do I find the .ebp extension used for special skins, such as the Tiger Ace or Command Panther?

Fallshirmjager moving a Pak40 through mud in Italy on foot
Wehrmacht personnel moving a Pak40 in Hungary on foot
Of course it wasn't supposed to be moved by infantry, but the Germans were under-motorized throughout the entire war with the exception of Kampfgruppe Lehr, the only unit fully equipped at all times with 250s and 251s instead of Opel Blitzes and horses. There were never enough trains, half tracks, or trucks to cover the massive logistics of the Eastern Front, and perhaps not even enough horses. Not saying that 2-man push/pulling a Pak40 is practical, but at the very least the crew would be able to reposition the gun without horses or vehicles. |
