It was too late when they threw it into the Alpha. |
OP is referring to OKW Sturmoffizier, and wanting other factions like USF to have similar units.
I don't mind that, considering USF officers besides Major is pretty much a unit you get out of tech unlock, and keep getting only because you want to preserve munitions while getting BAR/bazooka. It would have to be doctrinal though, since that not only allows variable types of aura bonuses, but also that you don't end up having them act like blob magnets.
I believe the point of getting XP from nearby units was meant to justify them being crap and limited to one. I'd much prefer removing that bonus and having actual unique combat/ support value besides being another target to shoot at, ie whatever target captian is shooting, nearby units have a bonus in penetration or accuracy or whatever. |
I think one way to improve this unit is that it has a toggle or idle status similar to Kubels/ AA halftracks: it cannot suppress unless it is not moving, but can still fire on the move, with relevant accuracy bonuses. ANother thing you could try to make it more useful in mid/late game is a Button ability to support AT weapons when attacking enemy tanks. The flaktrack itself is rather weak, but if you ignore it and focus on OKW tanks you might instead find your own vehicles blinded. |
Having read some comments here, I'm personally thinking that USF might have been better off with five veterancy levels, to at least make up for most of their units like Riflemen being subpar at vet0. I mean, a lot of OKW units for their part can vet up pretty fast. |
Another idea: Take away from the doctrine of breakthrough Assault-officer and he is based at the headquarters of the OKW. It features: the squad consists of an officer, 2 grenadiers with guards-43. Abilities: A) upon his death squads very close to him away, but the troops in the middle distance is suppressed to yellow. b) Instead of leaflets and other rubbish, is the challenge of a smokescreen using the stuff for 30 rounds(5 sticks). b) Passive aura - increases the survivability of units in shelters. The accuracy of fire and reload speed is constantly at +3/5/7% depending on the level of experience of the officer. g) Binoculars - activates the ability - the party is, and visibility is increased, but the angle is narrowed as the su-85. d) at 2 and 4 levels receive 1 additional Grenadier in the squad.
So you want the Sturmoffizer t be non-doctrinal, and to compensate make him pretty much a Ostheer officer clone? No thanks. If I am mistaken, then I suggest you either edit your post to make more sense or find an English-speaking friend to do a proper contextual translation.
Disagree, that's way too similar to Panzerfusiliers.
Actually more similar to Jaegers. Panzerfusiliers on their part at least have a bit of surivability due to larger squad size.
5 MP40's for 70 ammo
or 1 shrek for 90 ammo
Id be happy with them two as options. IMO short-range upgrade is not the option, long-range is. Hence the LMG34/ AT rifles idea. |
If they can't figure out how to unfuck MP-40's just give Volks a StG 44 package for 90 muni that gives them like 3 StG's.
Well now you've just upgraded the Volksblob being cheap versions to Sturms, to superior versions of Sturms.
The Sergeant idea, however: perhaps we can make it where Volks start out at 4-man squad, but along the way to teching this upgrade adds the 5th member to the squad, similar to vet2 RETs? Could be found in T3 so that you choose between forward retreat + medics or no ISG/ JP4 and bigger Volks squads. That might not sound like much, but I think it can really temper the Volksblob strategy.
Or just give them an alternate AT Rifle upgrade (can't also upgrade to panzerschreck, so you get better AI vs better AT meta). Such an idea can also instead be a doctrinal unlock. Each upgrade grants one weapon, and instead has the Volks improved long-range firepower rather than replacing Sturms. What you might get as a result is T3 strategy but using Pumas for AT while AT Rifles to deal with infantry/ light armour threats, but having less blob potential in later game once better tanks arrive. |
Infantry with AT weapons should have Prioritize Vehicle toggle too. |
He doesn't make vehicles go abandoned though.
Other than that he's more like Jarmen O'Kell, son of famed pipe major Simon O'Kell |
SOme more thoughts on the matter of P4J being stock:
IMO it didn't need to turn into stock unit, I think it should ahve been cheaper, unlocks earlier, comes only one per call-in, and retains some of the characteristics like the veterancy and comes with skirts and such/ Sure it would still be doctrinal, but it would also make Elite Armoured a very popular commander by virtue of a medium tank. At the very least it's a compromise between what it is pre-July21 (very expensive 2x tanks at a rather late time) and making it a unit you can build as soon as you get T4...alongside Panther. It just seems odd to have a tier that can build infantry, light+ medium+ plus medium-heavy tanks all in one, for a faction that's mostly about choosing one strategy over another depending on the truck you deploy first.
I also think, regardless of the change, P4J should have had some unique OKW attributes like different abilities. Sure it has 5 veterancy, but in the end it won't change how you play it from Ostheer. I'd go as far as replacing Combat Blitz with something like toggle HE/AP rounds. You know, to make it more of a "generalist tank" everyone was so willing to hump leg for. Worst case scenario it's just a Sherman on steroids. |
As OP should clearly know by now, people don't really read or think much of threads. They'll still harp you like as if you've identified yourself as a self entitled hater brat despite stating the exact opposite sentiments in the first few sentences.
Which is doubly ironic given that people have allegedly whined the hell out of Relic to make OKW play more like Ostheer. Guess we now who who are the real self-entitled C-sticks.
As for the subject itself Relic can justify it with the usual "It's warspoils so you CAN get it for free, therefore you need to treat it as if it IS free", as well as the fact that if you've ground the hell out of yourself by now you'll have gotten the commander, or paid for the commander, but which both does not bring any negative effects. Whether or not that's a slippery slope into truly questionable business ethics, well you're asking the wrong people. Most people here either don't care, or benefit, so they think you're the self-entitled one rather than themselves. Usually they're also jerks too. Internetz and all that. |
