It looks like Relic is looking at panzerschrecks as a sort of way for OKW to transition from early game to their tanks, of which relies on fuel economy. Since this means the OKW player would be largely facing light vehicles, then wouldn't it be just more practical if Volks panzerschreck was just changed to AT rifles? A blob would rip an M20 to shreds, but would get ripped themselves by a Centaur.
I also think that, at the least, the panzerschreck upgrade should be locked behind T2. The reason I think this would help is:
1) At present, the upgrade is unlocked in either med truck or puma truck. Any OKW player that wants AT dominance can go puma truck, go for puma, and until then rip with schrecks. There isn't a huge drawback to going medic truck instead, the worst is that the OKW player is FORCED to volksblob because they cannot go for vehicles, a present they're the shitty flaktrack, the unarmed IR halftrack, and the ISG which isn't a vehicle. OKW is kind of saturated with choice and not enough drwawbacks that come when picking them.
2) If Schrecks require medic truck, then going for it would be predictable for strategic gameplay- an opponent will instantly know that Schreck volks mean they went medic truck, which means no puma, which means you pump out HMGs to suppress them. They cannot get more points if their blobs are always being pinned and the munitions are all spent on dealing with a threat that hasn't materialized. Shrecks therefore have obvious benefits and more obvious drawbacks.
3) Naturally, going for schrecks means that, besides instead of blobbing you build Racketen43, the OKW player has denied themselves the benefit of useful light vehicles.
I originally wanted to suggest either Obers with panzerschreck upgrade or even locking the upgrade behind T3, but it seems to me that Relic looks to panzerschreck as more early/ mid game AT than something to be used throughout. It explains why they went for Sturmpioniers instead of Obers, to me Obers is a more obvious choice considering how limited they are in contributing to a meaningful role. |
If they really want OKW to keep handheld AT, then they should just replace Volks panzerschreck with AT rifles. Makes them super against against light vehicles but perform like shit against tanks. Maybe give Obers the faust instead?
I also think that maybe incendiary and concussive grenade should be swapped between the units, with incendiary the Volks make such ideal assault infantry over Sturms due to size and cost.
With that in mind, the perfect combo literally requires all three units working together. Part of the problem is that a specific OKW squad (almost always Volks) is a metaphorical all eggs in one basket, which naturally resulted in them being blobbed. By contrast it is bad strategy to blob Grenadiers or even Panzergrenadiers since you need both in equal numbers to work effectively.
Unless Relic wants OKW to work just like Ostheer then they just need to realize that Volks blob is a reality that should just be accepted, and they get nerfed. So far they're just skirting the issue by swapping upgrades around. |
They have heavy tanks for that job
Seriously now, OP does have a point, every time I deploy them next to some obstructions, it causes pathfinding issues for nearby infantry, ie medic truck gets squads stuck forever unless I TK them or rush a tank over there to clear the way.
I personally think they should just give back the regular grenade to Volks for that job. Costs munitions but available at start of game.
Why is it that every time I see a topic about someone wanting to add something to a faction it's always for the OKW?
Because you don't read enough threads here. |
I actually prefer if it went back to Volks, but it be like 2x panzerschrecks and cost 120 or more munitions. Remove the StG upgrade, I find they make even more powerful blobs.
This may make them more powerful as AT, but it does mean that any player wouldn't want to waste more manpower because of the AT firepower. IMO a big reason for having so many volks at a time is precisely because they can only hold 1 schreck. Increased cost but increased numbers would rapidly drain munitions, so it wouldn't be possible nor practical to spam volks when you can't even get AT firepower upped.
I have to ask though, if they really wanted to cut down on AT blobbing, can't they just nerf their panzerschreck, or even just replace them with the PzGr.38 AT rifles that already exist in the game? if you spam volks all you get is buffed light AT that's crap against tanks. |
Overall I like the changes, though I would have also accepted 2x panzerschreck for Obers instead, but they clearly want AT infantry to come earlier than tanks. |
Thanks for the troll.
If it's not from an announcement source, it's BS. |
They should make the KV1 and KV8 just give all the relevant commanders a vanilla KV-1 that can upgrade to flamethrowers.
The respective commander and unit will be better since it can perform a much better AI role. |
I'd give the Captain the BARs and give the Lieutenant squad Thompsons, I think that would be interesting. Not the same Thompsons that Rangers / Airborne / Vehicle crews get, of course. Not a bad idea, though in the end, USF isn't in dire need of a CQB unit, their RIflemen and Officer squads are pretty good at that job.
Giving CPT bazooka plus BAR and the LT an upgrade to get all four SMGs doesn't sound very bad. |
There are three USF units in the game, that aren't Rangers, that have Thompsons. Two of them are non-doctrinal. No reason is given as to why they should get one more via Riflemen. |
They're gonna take away all our duplicates no more 30% MG Reload!! Only 10% No more 12% pen for Firefly! Only 4%
I thought that's not now it works? If you stack three Grim Reap Tool bulletins the result isn't 75 munitions (5% x three equals 15%, so 90-15) but 77 (5% discounted from the total, re 5% of 85 equals 81, and 5% of 81 equals 77). Maybe it doesn't apply to other bulletins, or maybe just placebo effect? |
