Just admit that the commander system is broken since release, I would prefer we only have 3 commanders like vCOH and Relic can introduce new stuffs through alternate units like ToV.

In a green bill way, it's not broken, not at all.

You can pick at those examples, to be sure but how many games actually allow a "design your own commander" equivalent? Any AAA rts? Honestly I can't think of one. Especially given the number and power of the commander abilities in this game, it seems likely to be a balance clusterfuck.

Not picking sides or anything, but didnt AoE3 have a custom commander system of sorts with cards and home city call ins?

It did.

But the call-ins of AoE3 were pretty much the same for all factions.

Looking at Total War as an example, in multiplayer each player has a certain amount of currency say $10,000. Crappy conscript soldiers will cost maybe 500 while better ones will cost 3000 and OP units will costs like 6000. This way you cannot stack your armies with the most OP units and need to balance it out.

If a Similar system was implemented in COH 2 that would allow us to make custom commanders, I could see it working pretty well.

You don't realize that it's either OP Tiger Ace on release level of broken or it's underpower level of Defensive tactics.

If you limit it by currency, you just need to fill 2 OP units/abilities and just fill the rest with crap. See Tiger + Command tank/Puma/Stug-E*
If you try to limit it by rarerity, you should realize that there are not such amount of bad abilities rather than bad combination of them.

*Oh wait, we already have a commander with those 2 :P Replace the other 3 choices and you have probably a better commander than one of the meta for 1v1.

PD: as a custom game option, it wouldn't be bad. For automatch, isn't worth the effort in trying to balance such system.

Looking at Pencilbattalion post, they may include downside to some bulletins. +firepower but less armor/life. Can be interesting to see what they plan to include if any.
I can't really imagine they took more than a year to build and develop the warspoil system only to let us use all our free currency given. They must plan to make us use it.

Personnaly I would love to see custom commanders, but at the same time it would be insanly hard to balance them. Mainly for british, because almost every single ability they have are very potent and good. ANd some of the combinations could be insanly OP.

As long as people are willing to pay real money for a competitive advantage, Relic is going to continue to design systems allowing them to do so. The goal of relic is to make money, not to be able to have peace of mind about achieving perfect balance.

If you have objections about the above statement, I realize your counter-argument is about to be "but without a balanced game, they won't have players playing it so they won't make money with it". Your argument is not in accordance with Relic's history, so you might as well not bother with it. How many players paid more to roll around for a year in kangaroos playing CoH1? How many players have gone out and bought the most OP doctrines for CoH2? You consistently see higher sales for more OP commanders. Custom commanders will allow them to achieve the same kinds of profits without actually having to design and test any new commander trees themselves, so it is basically a win-win for them.
