Is 100 range too much?

I think it's no suprize on this board about the balance issues surrounding the ISU-152 and Elephant, but I've been thinking lately about their range. I mean it's pretty rediculous. It's one thing for units to be killing others from far ranges, but the ISU and Elephant are by no means vulnerable tanks. Both have a rather large amount of health and armor, but on top of this are near impossible to approuch, especially if there is even a little bit of support. I would accept this on things like the Pak43 since they are vulnerable, but on these it seems like it's too much.

Now I'm not advicating on removing this advantage entirely, but at a value around 80 or so it would increase the risk of these units a bit. They would be forced to be closer to the battle a bit more rather then be able to shoot safely from right outside their base. Increasing their risk a bit. Perhaps they might find themselves in range of an AT gun or be forced to go into a position where they can't also cover their flanks.

There could be adjustments to compensate like mobility increases or price drops, but I think that an improvement like this can really improve the game.

There have been plenty of ISU vs elephant or ISU op and ele op threads, but not any that directly bring up the issue of 100 range as a whole, and with the new factions arriving we might get a whole new batch of 100 range units. Jagdtiger and the M36 will likely have 100 range as well and might suffer from the same issues.

I have no problem with range. Fast rate of fire is the problem. Elefant and ISU need 12-15 sec reload time.

Wouldn't that be too slow? Hell a single T34 could just tank the first hit and stroll right up to it.

Changing the range in isolation won't fix the issue. The units in question need an overhaul.

I never siad it's the only thing that needs to be changed, but I think it is a large cantributing factor. I mean the elephant has a ton of armor, but how often is that even a factor. As it is the armor just serves as a big screw you after a player somehow manages to get that close to one which is a huge challenge in itself, the same with the ISU.

80 range, make them unable to move while in fire-mode, max 1 per player and make them require tier 4 building and i promise you we will se a lot less of isu-152, elefant and is2/tiger spam.

I doubt you would see any with that many nerfs.

I'm waiting to see how relic decides to nerf them. If you reduce range too much they will straddle the line between too powerful and "useless". Currently they're pretty pathetic in a stand up fight and are only marginally tougher to kill than an SU85 when you're actually there with them.

We might see a nerf AND a cost decrease to reflect their new, less useful role.

hahaha wat? Elephant has 88mm shells. Due to limited ammunition sizes elephant crews only had AP rounds in them.
