I've been ranting and nagging about this since the start of the beta, even started several threads here about it. Nobody gave a shit.

And suddenly, out of the blue, everyone wanted it after AmiPolizeiFunk wrote that piece of art. Some people even condemned Relic for not having this in the game since day one even though they probably didn't write a single word here or elsewhere requesting this feature.

I really hope that this observer mode comes with a lot of options and that it is a benefit for everyone and not just the casters. It kinda defeats its purpose if you can only use it in custom games and not in automatch.

It's all in the delivery, I guess. As much as the Internet (and seemingly this game :p ) brings it out in people, 'ranting and nagging' simply isn't attractive. A carefully constructed and presented argument on the other hand, can be.

Also, the timing of WFA armies probably helped substantially. It's made it a vastly more interesting game IMHO, even if such a major addition will need some significant ongoing polish to deal with the intracacies of bugs and balance. People did criticise COH2 for how conventional its two initial armies were. I didn't really understand what they were complaining about at the time, but now it's hard for me to go back to Ost and Sov.

What are you talking about "nobody gave a shit?" Here is a reddit post about a Q&A from a year ago. Notice how they were asking about observer mode. Here is someone on reddit asking for it 6 months ago. When all those casters visited Relic before CoH 2 came out they asked about observer mode. I and others (and Ami!) have been bitching about this since long before Ami wrote the article. I was asking for this before launch and I've been asking for it continually ever since. And I know I'm not the only one.

It's also not clear to me how "defeats the purpose" if it only works in custom games. One of the main purposes of observer mode is to run live tournaments. That's like, the biggest reason to have it.

You are so right. It's still funny how this received such attention. No matter the course of action the conclusion is still the same. It's a fact that only some very few individuals actually were asking for this until AmiPolizeiFunk wrote that article.

First: Saying that "Nobody gave a shit." is just a generalization. You know that there were no pressure from the great mass of players for Relic to introduce this feature in the game before Ami wrote his article.

Second: How are us commoners without a bunch of top 100 players on our Steam friendlist going to benefit from OBS, except watching live tournaments on Twitch, if we can't at least watch our friends play automatch? I'm not just talking about 1vs1 and 2vs2 but also larger team games.

Would be nice if observer mode is this flexible, and hopefully it will be. I can sympathize with Ludd3emm on this issue. Even though I am a high lvl player myself having observer mode for those who aren't good, or can't spend the time to be good in this game would be great, considering(and not to mean any offence) most of the community consists of average to semi-average players.

There are no details yet. It probably will not work for auto match.

I dont see why you would even make a point of 'before no one cared about it and now everyone is happy'.
There were a lot of guys asking for obs, maybe not making a forumpost about it but there were a lot of players and casters asking for obs.

Its here, be happy and point final.

in other games usually spectators have their own private chat and can't talk to the players since they see both sides.
some games have a coach mode that lets you see only the side of your coachee and talk to him

There's no way in confirming nor denying that Ohme, so it's best to just wait and see.
