Thread: OCF recap thoughts2 Oct 2015, 23:22 PM
Here was my proposal to change the qualification system (closed + open qualifier); In addition to the open qualifier, first run a closed Ro32 qualifier (1 day, first week) for top active ladder players. Those that dont qualify directly from here get a second chance in the longer open Ro128 qualifier (2 days, second week). So the open qualifier can work like a "loser bracket" for the closed qualifier. Any high seeds in the open qualifier could then be based on the results from the closed qualifier. As an example; 1. Closed Ro32 qualifier (1 Day, top active ladder players) 6 players qualify for the "Main Event". Including all Ro4 players + 2 invites (winner + loser from previous OCF, so Devm + Aimstrong). The 2 qualifier invites will have to compete for a high seed in the "Main Event" to skip one opening round. Play Bo3 until Ro4. The 2 winners of Ro4 play against the 2 invites for a "high seed" in the "Main Event". 2. Open Ro128 qualifier (2 days) 6 players qualify for the "Main Event". Including all Ro4 players + 2 invites (both loser's from previous OCF "winner bracket" and "loser bracket" finals, so OMGPOP + VindicareX). The 2 qualifier invites will have to compete for a high seed in the "Main Event" to skip one opening round. Day 1: Play Bo3 until Ro32 Day 2: Play Bo3 until Ro4. The 2 winners of Ro4 play against the 2 invites for a "high seed" in the "Main Event". With a similar qualifier setup like this the setup for the "Main Event" (8 players + 4 invites) can remain the same except one small change. The 4 invited players will first have to play for a "Main Event" seed in one of the 2 qualifier tournaments. In: Lobby |

IS (starting unit) + 2 MGs if double brits or just 1 MG if you have soviet/USF to cap early game. No UC unless they start spamming MGs which could shut down your REs. Save your fuel for fast 5 man upgrade. Brits can skip early AT gun if going tank hunters (special weapons regiment) + sniper vs light armor. Also 3 x Vickers 3% accuracy bulletins will help get fast vet which are good against light armor. IS kinda suck in 2vs2s partly because they have no AT snare. Tank Hunters are more useful so soviet dont have to get early guards and can get shocks. Tank Hunters dont have AI like guards but they have AT grenades instead (so dont need cons support like soviet), artillery flares for increased vision and see armor in the fog of war. Tank Hunters in the M5 HT (the resupply "M3" HT) are also more usefull than guards in HTs since Tank Hunters can see armor in the fog of war + increased vision (with flares) to spot AT guns. Special weapons regiment work best against OKW as brits get soft counters to fast luchs and 12 CP call in arty that can kill OKW trucks + decrew ISGs around the truck. In: UKF Strategies |

Gotta disagree on the top ladder players getting advantage. Player ranks can become inflated by the number of games played rather than skill. If such a system must exist it should be by some other determination rather than just rank I think. I see your point, but there are cons and pros to this as well. Dont we want to encourage more active ladder players between tournaments (which are also important to cast games) ?. With both an open and closed qualifier I believe its fair that those playing many ladder games are rewarded while those who dont can still get into the open qualifier. In: Lobby |

I got into the top10 random (with my second brit account) without using IS as a fighting unit and instead rely on RE's (5 man), commandos/officier, snipers and vickers. Seems to work pretty nicely for 2vs2s. For 1vs1s I recently beat Jove (werh) without using ISs, so really you dont need ISs as a fighting unit. Combine a non-IS build with vanguards 1 CP fast cap ability and you can take map control very quickly. Even UC can cap with that 1 CP ability. Alot of players still dont expect brits to swarm the map with 4-6 REs (upgraded with lmgs when floating munitions). If to much light armor are a problem, go tank hunters (upgraded with artillery flare for vision) + resupply HTs or AEC with vanguard (using the AEC to cap with commander ability). Tank hunters are very good to hunt down light armor in the supply HT as they can see armor in the fog or war. IS can work ok in 1vs1s but in 2vs2s they usual dont do that much compared to how much MP you invest into it. For 2vs2, try using IS as a support unit behind your line to heal, back cap, laying cover etc. If double brits, one has to go AEC (or tank hunters) or you will be to weak against light armor rushes. With the recent camo nerf to Werh sniper, you can usual force a retreat or kill with double lmg's RE within 2 bursts. Air officer with double lmgs + heroic charge do well against snipers as well. So do camo commandos as we have seen recently in the tourney finals. In: UKF Strategies |

Fanboism + public balance testing = https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ob4dh9Y8gm8 It just create unnecessary division within the COH2 community. Usually during alpha/beta game test, those involved are abit more interested in balance testing rather than just fanboism. Relic balance mods are a good idea in theory but it's not a good idea to get the whole community involved in balance testing (to much fanboism). I recently made a thread to encourage fanboi's (which include me) to stay out of balance testing which is not for everyone. If Relic continue encouraging fanboi's to get involved with their balance testing mods that cant be good for COH2.org public balance forum. Soon or later, the staff need to do some "damage control" before the balance forum die a slow death. In: Lobby |
Thread: Operation Charlie Fox Fatigue 30 Sep 2015, 19:43 PM
Second, the Qualifiers. Some suggest we should revert to the old qualification system under SNF, spread over several weekends. The problem with crowd funding here, however, may be that some donate because they hope their own favourite player will make it through. In other words, if a favourite or two got knocked out early on a longer tourney, this could adversely affect the crowd funding side of it. Further, if we spread a crowd funded tourney over several weeks, it could seem as if we trying to milk the system, which was not the intention. Thoughts on this, either way, please? One suggestion to change the qualification system (closed + open qualifier); In addition to the open qualifier, first run a closed Ro32 qualifier (1 day, first week) for top active ladder players. Those that dont qualify directly from here get a second chance in the longer open Ro128 qualifier (2 days, second week). Thread: GG Ami, staff and players30 Sep 2015, 16:29 PM
Thx Ami/staff, players and casters for a great tourney. Pleasure to see a decent variety of casters and side casters for the tourney. The casting community looks promising and hopefully will continue to improve for future events like this. But the qualifier tournament definitely need improvement (too rushed) and staff need to learn from constructive criticism. Keep up the good community work. In: Lobby |
