That reminds me of the time Activision was wrapped up in a legal battle with Infinity Ward over allegations of not paying the team the money they were owed, and their PR team dropped this little gem: "Any game with the Call of Duty title will instantly sell 3 million copies regardless if it's good or not. Nobody knew who Infinity Ward was before we came along and made them relevant".
As a result of all the BL3 drama and EGS exclusivity. Informed gamers are either;
1) Buying BL3 on console
2) Waiting for BL3 steam release
3) BL3 boycott (see below)

Tim and Epic left PC about 15+ years ago, denouncing us as all pirates, and saying consoles make more money so PC isn't a viable platform for gaming and would die off. They didn't want to do the work.
Valve wanted to do the work, and over the last 15 years has molded PC gaming into what it is, and arguably made it the most valuable ecosystem.
Now Tim is a salty piece of shit, and is trying to crawl back and demand he deserves a piece of the pie. But instead of doing work this time, he's just trying to mudsling and gaslight and PR his way into getting people to think Steam is somehow bad and what he's doing is for the "benefit" of us.

I think to a certain extent this is a make or break moment for EGS. If Borderlands doesn't push a large number of people to, not only purchase the game, but to keep making purchases going forward on the storefront I don't think anything will.
I doubt Epic will make a profit on the game. In 6 months it may sell 3 or 4 million copies on EGS. Borderlands 2 sold 8.5 million after a year and a half, but that included console sales and I am sure 1 or 2 Steam sales, so 4 million is probably extremely generous. But, if they did manage to sell that many, Epics cut would be just under $29 million. Tim Sweeney has said that about 58% of that would go towards direct costs (e.g., server costs, direct labor costs). That would leave them about $12 million. I'm sure Take 2 wanted more than just guaranteed sales to go Epic exclusive as sales are pretty much guaranteed for the game. I wouldn't be surprised if, at least, that whole $12 million is going right back to Take 2. I also wouldn't be surprised if Epic waived all of their fees.
Now, I don't think EGS will be gone on September 14 if they don't hit their sales goal. It will probably be around a couple of years from now regardless of how poorly it performs. But, over the next couple of months Tim Sweeney will probably be looking at the numbers. If people he sees that people came to his store, purchsed Borderlands 3, and then went back to Steam or GOG, he may decide to just go into maintenance mode with the store and not sink large amounts of money into the store any more.

The amount of support DARQ has received from the community has been incredible. I didn't expect my blog post (Why I turned down exclusivity deal from the Epic Store[medium.com]) to result in so much good will and support. Which means something probably happened backstage. It's weird for a newcomer, alone, to publicly tackle Tim Sweeney like that. Even if we don't like him or EGS, he's still a big big part of the gaming industry, and the DARQ creator wants to make a career in it.

He's actually a redditor (saw a post on r/fuckepic about this) and said that Tim asked him if He's willing to accept an exclusive deal, weeks before release, when Tim Epic promised that they not gonna buy out games just before release anymore.
DARQ dev said that He is happy to sell on EGS, but not as exclusive. Tim declined because he cannot accept that the game would sell on Steam as well, even tho Tim already stated that Epic is not anti Steam.
Also, DARQ dev is wanting to ride this as a PR stunt. Which is not a problem IMO, if you fight against lying bag of shits in the meantime.
Underrated interview. The interviewer is very well informed and ask good questions.
Quinn Duffy is the only old school leader left in Relic that does fairly honest interviews like this, so respect for that.

In the upcoming Company of Heroes for iPad, players secure their positions with field defences which can be quickly and easily placed by drawing them directly onto the map — like so.
Not talking necessarily about this Ipad version rather than the quote saying that they want to have more influence in the Asian market.
In similar fashion as to what happened to C&C, the game is developed by other studios and the only resemblance to the original IP would be the name.

Speaking to GamesIndustry after the E3 2019 briefing, Head of Gaming Phil Spencer pointed to untapped territories like Africa and India as areas where consoles don’t currently do well, unlike smartphones. Thus, Project xCloud could be the perfect way to get these gamers to play Xbox titles.
We know that the first customers for xCloud are going to be people who own an Xbox. It’s going to be, ‘Oh, I want to play my Xbox when I’m away.’ Last month, Catherine [Gluckstein, chief of staff/strategy for Xbox] and I were in Africa. Not a lot of Xboxes in Africa. Not a lot of game consoles. 1.2 billion people on the continent of Africa. Average age is 19 on the continent. They know Fortnite, they know Halo, they know Gears of War. They just don’t have a device.
There are gamers there, but the device they have is an Android phone. So today they are kind-of locked out of what an E3 is — outside of watching — because of the capability they have.
When I think about the two billion [gamers worldwide], which is a number that has tripled over the last two decades, I really think about how we service the two billion who play today with as much content and services as we can offer, but also go to places like Africa. I was looking at some of the PUBG mobile numbers in India and they’re crazy — they’ve had 100 million downloads or something. You see these markets where gaming can grow to the next two billion or even more…. There are seven billion people on the planet. For me, I think they should all play video games.
That's according to Microsoft creative director Adam Isgreen, who told PCGamesInsider.biz that the company's responsibility is to make sure that Age of Empire games from other studios are going in the right direction.
Microsoft has worked with developer Forgotten Empires for the Definitive Edition of Age of Empires - which was released in 2018 - and the modern update of its sequel that's launching in November. Isgreen says that Australia's Tantalus Media is working on Age of Empires III Definitive Edition, too.
That's on top of the Big M bringing in Sega-owned Relic Entertainment on-board to make Age of Empires 4.
The new Age of Empires venture was announced at E3 2019 alongside Microsoft's purchase of adventure game specialist Double Fine.
"We do have an internal team but we're really providing oversight to our wonderful development partners - our team at Forgotten Empires that made Age of Empires Definitive Edition and is working on Age of Empires II - Definitive Edition, but we also have a group in Australia - Tantalus Media - that's working on Age of Empires III," Isgreen explained.
"We have Relic up in Vancouver. But they're also helping each other out with all the games, too. Our role at Microsoft is to enable these great developers to make Age products and to be the overseers and the ones making sure that we're on-message and on-brand for delivering what we believe to be great Age of Empires experiences. They're accessible, for all ages and you may learn something about history whether you want to or not. That kind of approach, a game that's accessible that is really meant for a large audience, across the world. We have a wonderful userbase from all across the globe that plays Age of Empires games every month and we want to make sure we can bring everybody in, not just from specific cultures."
So, the plan is that I want to make the best PC real-time strategy game possible first. Now there's mouse and keyboard support on Xbox, but so many people don't have mouse and keyboard that they can plug in. So, I think the challenge, and what I want to fool around with afterwards, is... once we get this done, we're gonna look at what we can do for console controls, like building a console control scheme specifically for Age of Empires. We don't have anything to announce about console right now, but we're going to go try to figure it out.

Publisher-driven exclusives on platforms like Origin and Battle.net have proven a lot easier for players to swallow – but even though CD Projekt’s own GOG briefly served as the exclusive home for Thronebreaker, the company has decided to forego exclusivity for Cyberpunk 2077.
“With Thronebreaker, we started with an exclusive, and decided to share it with a wider audience,” global communications manager Marcin Traczyk tells us at Gamescom. “It proved to us that exclusives maybe don’t work for us, because we don’t want to limit the number of people who can access the game.”
