I haven't watched yet but maybe he set his tanks to "attack ground" where your tanks were. That's one way to hit things that are obscured. In: Replays |

So use the T70. It melts infantry and can be out at like 8 minutes. In: COH2 Balance |

Thread: Soviet build analysis, over in less than 7:0028 Jun 2013, 05:43 AM
Granted this guy was level 17. I thought the possibility of him being a newb was there, and while his micro was pretty good, he had the worst build ever. I can't hate cuz we've all been there. (if only there was some sort of... ladder or... brackets...hmmm) This was my first game of the night and I wanted to focus on reducing my resource floating as much as possible. I'm paying attention to manpower for the most part which goes something like: Conscript float 13 Conscript float 04 Conscript float 137 - note here I was waiting for 240 for a Combat Engineer to build Tier two or for 250 for Field Infirmary if I took losses. I will occasionally make a fourth Conscript here too if I lost my engagements or if he has an MG42 locking down a sector. Upon evaluation of the battlefield (I play Soviets reactively) I saw a perfect timing window for... Molotovs float 0 Tier Two float 20 - Tier Two and the Maxim ended up having impeccable timing with each other and I just loved the interaction between keeping his grens from standing still with Molotovs while the Maxim charged into battle in true Soviet fashion. It's just such an aggressive unit! Maxim HMG float 18 Shock Troops - when I finally realized what was happening the timing was perfect for my first command point and I ended it. Notice the timing of Molotovs was a read of my opponent and I would have normally built another engineer to build tier two while my first engineer lay mines in the South. If this had been a "Molotov" build I could see them being out on the field 26 seconds earlier. In: Replays |

He has done the same bunker strat to me before and I get weird and send my guys to it over and over. If I had shifted North things may have gone better but Steve is very good. In: Replays |

If and when I start playing Ostheer more I think mortar half track will be a favorite of mine. I just have a thing for call-in mortars ![]() In: COH2 Balance |
Thread: Anti-Infantry Tactics, reading the opponent for the win.28 Jun 2013, 04:25 AM
Briggs why you never watch from my perspective? If its only because Ostheer is the default in replays then will you indulge me for just one cast pretty please? ![]() Also I liked your commentary on the mortar. It's not about how many kills it gets, it's about suppression and area denial. I usually use the Guards Motor Coordination Tactics doctrine since the tier one call-ins fill in the perfect timing around 5:30 minutes for a guard vs tier 2 or a 120mm vs tier 1 without having to spend fuel or worry about if you went tier one or two already and to support your second key push. This leaves your fuel income flowing to rush tier three. Soviets may be the aggresive faction, but they're also the reactive (counter) faction. I try to play them like Zerg and create counter units based on scouting via pushing hard into their territory around 2:30-3:00 minutes into the game to force their more elite units to reveal themselves. Smart retreating is a key here. Next a tank comes in to counter his... everything and I tend to be cautious at this point and not base rush but maybe just build another mortar or piece of artillery to knoc on his doorstep like an annoying Jehova's Witness of Death ![]() Also thank you kindly for your praise at the end of the video ![]() In: Replays |

Just like I said in the Maxim spam thread... get a mortar. Ostheer mortar may not be that efficient but it's free indirect damage once it's out. Make sure to displace after volleys if it's alone though. Get a squad spotting for them and things get real. Check this replay to see Stevebud hose me with a mortar opening in 9:41 XD http://www.coh2.org/replays/4565/feeding-stevebud-another-victory In: COH2 Balance |
Thread: Fix MAXIM28 Jun 2013, 03:36 AM
I always make 2-3 Maxims in my builds and I'll say the best counter I've come up against is, of course, Flammenwerfer half track (which doesn't take that bad of damage from Maxims,) but if you committed early to tier one as Ostheer I highly recommend getting a mortar. Many people have tried countering with snipers but they simply don't bleed Maxims fast enough. One of the reasons Maxim spam is so effective is a lot of Ostheer players go MG42 first, set it in a church and just let it stay there for like eight minutes. I just avoid it and cap the shit out of the map. I played a match on Moscow Outskirts that lasted 30 minutes and I don't think his MG got a single kill. Unless you are going fast tier 2 with Ostheer I would recommend making a gren or two and wating til about 3-6 minutes to see what card the Soviet plays. Think of soviet like Zerg in that they are highly aggressive and can cheese but they are also an effective reactive faction. If you make an MG42, Mortar or Sniper too soon they can tech up to tier one or two accordingly as a counter. In: COH2 Balance |
