The resolution of the tactical maps is horrible.
360x360 px stretched to a normal gaming size screen (e.g. 1920x1080 or even higher) simply looks horrible. Especially on maps like Minsk Pocket where the trees/forest areas are just slightly darker sprinkles on the map. Other path blockers aren't displayed at all.
I wanted to make a map pack for Gtactix, a strategy planning tool, like I did for CoH but for today's resolutions the tactical maps look horrible and the invisibility of many objects on the tactical map doesn't make strategy planning feasible anyways.
However, I appreciate that they added them because they were often asked for during beta.
On the other hand, I think that many of the uses a tactical map had in CoH 1 is now fulfilled by being able to issue capping orders on the mini map and by the unit banners in the top right of the screen.
The tactical map is great though when used e.g. during a recon flight so you can quickly see the symbols of the scouted units even when they were just barely inside the scouting area. Plus a scout plane is often pretty fast so moving the camera everywhere it flies isn't really a good solution.
Tactical map improvements I'd love to see:
1. higher resolutions
2. make the design fit modern screens better! Maybe use the space on the right or left e.g. to display the unit banners (like in the top right when outside of the tactical map)
3. Customizable Hotkey(s) but that needs to be done for everything. Maybe when we finally have modding tools (.sga packer please!). |
It is intended afaik. Barely anyone knew about it until some dev used it. |
Seriously? I had expected the boni to be much lower. This sounds ridiculous.
Especially all those offensive boni...
I really need to toy around with it a little.
Thanks! |
I'd like to know that, too.
I looked inside the game files but couldn't find anything. |
Did I understand it right that the commanders will be free for everyone? Because that is what one of the explanations in the beginning sounded like. |
Yeah, preorders and CEs will get those for free. |
*0.8 damage received afaik, so -20% damage. Quite a good effect.
Its main gun is pretty bad. It kind was comparable but worse than the old T-34's but now T-34s got buffed so the command tank can no longer fend it off on itslef. It already comes with the top gunner so you at least save some munitions on that.
It is pretty useless against armor but ok against infantry and light vehicles (up to T-70). It really is a unit designed to be used with other units like Pak guns, I guess Stugs could also work very well because yes, they will be able to take more damage but the Command Panzer 4 can also tank for them.
It was pretty useful when fighting against the old (too weak) Soviet Tier 3 (T70, T-34). It couldn't really kill those vehicles but it was great for supporting Pak/Panzerschrecks. Now I feel that it may be a bit too weak for its cost compared to T-34s.
It is worth testing and the commanders are pretty interesting so just try them and see how it works out. |
That Soviet Shock commander will be overkill I fear... |
You are talking about a different commander - Soviet Mechanized Support Tactics . I already have it. Either way, I think I'm gonna buy the CE.
Oh, sorry. I got the Armored Assault one but I don't know where it is from. Wasn't it the commander that had some hiccups at release or something?
Edit: Here it is

So you should have that one with CE I think. |
only after 3 month a 33% discount?
There have been cheaper sources from the beginning if you are that unhappy/desperate. |
