Fair game. MVGame
Problem is, there isn't much we can do about steam version bugs right now and, even in the best case scenario, if leaderboards and fixes do come, our stats will probably be reset. |
This is true.
The point of making ram less used is to promote smart use of it, sinetad of turning games into a ramfest.
As it stands, ramming in late game, if used properly, can take out the heaviest german tank. I don't necessarily even need to have tanks nearby, I'm just leaving an enemy tank there, useless (especially if I managed to destroy its main gun).
Hell, if the area is blobbed enough (by say, troops trying to repair or protect that tiger/eleph), then I can simply saturate that area with artillery.
The T-34 pretty much pays for itself if you manage to take any german vehicle above T2, economically speaking. |
AFAIK, there was no side armor in vCoH, either.
Making the ram ability doctrinal is not necessarily a bad idea, but it should be weighed carefully.
T34 RAM should not be the bread and butter of Soviet AT, because frankly, it promotes no smart tactics. Sure, you need combined arms to use it to full effect, but late game, its the perfect target denial ability in the game bar none. People saying that Soviet AT is useless without the ram ability, should perhaps be looking towards strengthening the other AT solutions instead of relying solely on one.
That being said, there's a change in CoH2 that many are not considering: doctrinal call ins. This allows for a HUGE soviet advantage so far (we haven't seen all commanders), and now you can theoretically bring guards to the battlefield quicker, and earlier. All soviet players now also have access to satchel charges as a soft AT solution, since penal battalions are not replaced (risky, but its still viable against an immobilized tank(s)).
My proposition?
Get rid of the stupid T-34 cap ability, and move ram as the T-34's vet ability. It forces you to conserve your tank in order to be able to use the ability at all and, when you do have access to it, you are going to be throwing away a vet unit against the enemy.
A soviet medium tank has no place or role capturing strategic points. If players want it so badly, make it doctrinal (imho, remove it altogether, or leave it to the lighter vehicles such as T70).

What Sepha said is spot on, imho. I agree that ladders are not necessarily essential, but I think some sort of system, for people to keep track of how they are doing in comparison to the competition, is needed. Ipkaifung brings very valid points, and I think that ladders are not a perfect system either, but they are a traditional system.
For competitive players, the ladder is a BIG part of the game, but Im going to go ahead and assume that finishing up the single player experience, polishing through beta, etc, are far more important than the ladder system.
Delaying the game could have big consequences on the success of the game, even if the product is better. |
I think that, if the Conscript vs Gren dynamic was balanced more, a lot of these things would be easier to fit in.
I still feel infantry is way too damn resilient to small arms fire. Once we get that out of the way, manpower won't flow as much, and while you may reach the fuel requirement early on, you'll have to make the decision between reinforcing or bringing in new tech.
That is, unless, you have played your cards right, and have won your engagements intelligently (but that's not balance, that's just being better).

Microsoft has been going about stating that they won't place the harsh restrictions on used games everyone has been saying, but who knows if this was the original intention or just damage control lvl 9000.
A Reddit post was also circulating, with information on a patent filed by M$, consisting of a technology to give "achievements" based on how many ads you see. While it doesn't mean they'll implement it, it speaks volumes of what the big players in the industry are assuming the next big thing will be.
I patent X, so that if my competitions comes up with something similar, I am not left behind in the game. Clever clever. |
That was the point, but it didn't touch down softly, which is my fault
It wasn't meant to sprout a finger pointing war, just making a parody of douchebaggery (the protagonist douche being me, of course). |
i was just too emotional at that time so yea as a native my grammar goes wrong cause i cant concentrate its just funny how my wehr stats are removed and i have no games played as USA but after that bug now my usa is lvl8 1v1 without any games being played
This is exactly why I used dark humor (a big mistake, I suppose), since he was venting a recent event. No one has insulted his english , he uses it just fine, its just he typed it in such a hurried manner that it is simply hard to understand to people like me.
Not trying to be a dick, once the bad joke was done I pointed him towards the thread where that same discussion was being held. I have no intentions of being a mod, or backseat modding. |
I think, at this point, focusing on a strong single player product will benefit Sega and Relic a lot more, and by means of that, better post-release support.
Rock on. |
By the way, Australian and German public figures (as in government) have both condemned the technology. Keyword being condemned, as they can't really ban it yet, until the product's capabilities are released.
*the separation between "product" and "service" is important here. I know a lot of companies want games to go under the latter term because it gives the company more control, but they're legally considered products in Europe. A "service" would be something like the XB Live, which they have every right to terminate if I break the terms of service.
This is exactly my point, and where we all agree. If they can make a case for themselves justifying it as a service (as in, "renting" the technology), then sure, but I'd assume you would have to sign a physical contract and keep a copy of it. Just like you do when you pay for internet, electricity, etc.
If they keep it as a product, then yes, you are right. There's little they can do, because you own it and can abuse it in any way you can.
TBH, the only REAL way we can have an impact here, is to vote with our wallets. Sony is probably itching to capitalize on this HUGE M$ mistake, and if they play their cards right, Microsoft may just pull a Virtual Boy here.
Its time the consumers kicked some corporate ass. |
