Hasn't it always done that? 1 shot AT guns?
Yes it has. But a lot of people begged Relic to stop it one-shotting stuff and expected such a change in this patch.
Instead they nerfed Sturmpios and buffed Maxims. Yayyy. |
KT is fine. Expensive in terms of fuel, mapower and tech. If you're letting them field multiple KTs, you're doing something very wrong. |
For conscripts to do real damage to Sturmpios they need to be still and shoot from long range to Sturms in the open. It is possible, yes, but any decent OKW player will know how to avoid open terrain and move from cover to cover.
In a map with lots of cover, or buildings to move out of sight, a Sturmpio unit can kill easily two conscripts squads. Usually, whitout M3 or maxim you must avoid any engament with sturmpios at the beginning of the game.
What it's even worse, in team games sturmpios always start together with another Sturmpio or a Volk squad. Indisputably, OKW is the easiest faction in team games.
I agree that they start strong. First 2 minutes they're very good. But then... Oh then... :'( maxim maxim roflmans, mortar, mortar, zis barrage, etc.
And remember that the Sturmpioneers pay for their power with high upkeep. There are other advantages that cons have too.
Your point is correct if we're talking very early game effectiveness. Once the Maxims and/or snipers are out, it's a very very different story.
For conscripts to do real damage to Sturmpios they need to be still and shoot from long range to Sturms in the open. It is possible, yes, but any decent OKW player will know how to avoid open terrain and move from cover to cover.
Sounds like Shocks. Only the pios don't have nades, armour or 6 men.
If you think it's wrong that a unit can only be countered by standing in cover/garrison, then Shocks are very wrong too. |
I'm not doubting his opinion about balance. I said that he's undoubtely a MUCH better player than me in all factions. But the huge disparity in ratio in their 2vs2 random games is too strange for him to say later that soviets are easy to win with.
I'd expect that with the so called "abusive faction" he would have a huge number of victories. I find strange to complain about one faction being overpowered and abusive when you are wining 9 out of 10 games against them, and probably being paired against the best allied players in the ranking.
My theory is that probably that ratio is because is much easier to find a random OKW partner that can be useful (just blobing volks with schrecks and obers) than a random soviet player who knows what to do.
I also play lots of 2vs2 random games and it amazes me to see the HUGE number of real noobs who play soviets (those players who need 3 minutes to move their first unit and the first thing that he does is capping a VP, or that they make two fuel caches before building a second unit, etc). Seems that Soviet is the magnet faction for noobs, due maybe that the singleplayer campaign is played with them and then is the first faction they learn to use.
I'm curious and I'd want to know if their ratio disparity is due a bad teammates or perhaps is just because he played soviets months ago when he wasn't so good player, as you said Bulgakov.
I'm curious too actually. It is a very low ratio...
It could also be because in the past Ostheer was at times the monster faction with non-doctrinal elefant, Panzerterminators and Flamer HT at T2.
Also, Soviets aren't THAT overpowered. The problem is the cheese-units forcing you to play mega-boring strats to counter them. The Soviets aren't auto-win and axis has lots of nice stuff too. It's just the soul-destroying cheese units, which take little micro but force the axis to dance the devil's dance.
Your theory about noob-magnet faction is strong. Teammates are a major factor in 2v2. Other theories (and I may be wrong) are he was playing sovs in a bad-for-sovs patch or he was playing drunk a lot or he played sovs when OKW came out and nobody knew what to do about sturmpios. It could be anything. Still, his position tells us he's very good with soviets. |
Didn't HelpingHans did that recently to Cruzz?
No, he smashed Cruzz with USF when Cruzz was OKW. |
Dude, I trust your opinion because clearly you're a better player than me, but it's hard to believe that Soviets are OP and abusive as you say, when you have a ratio of 0.82 with OKW 2vs2 Random and a +20 streak, and just a poor 0.38 ratio with soviets.
If you notice he's 20th in the world, it might be less hard to believe him.
Ratio has less relevance than position when talking about the Soviets and Ostheer. Players could have had losses when they started playing then got better. Their improvement would lead to a higher position while their ratio remains weak.
I think you should focus on him being 20th in The World as Soviets and saying "I think Soviets are cheesy OP BS" rather than his ratio. If he's good enough to get to such a high position (and probably could go much higher if he played Sovs more), he probably knows Soviets well enough to know what he's talking about and for people to listen. Even if he's saying what you don't want to hear.
"the Soviet faction has the most abusive elements of the game right now" ~ OPKommandowest. Rank 20 as Soviets.
Maybe it's time for you to try some other factions, Greeb. |
1v1, but I wish they'd stop with the music. I can't watch Jesulin's because of all the 90 decibel euro-pop drowning out the game. Streams with music reminds me of this Family Guy cut-away https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ooyPX1ciFqo.
I prefer streamers who talk, explain what they're doing or just chat. Like Cataclaw or Dane. But I'd accept silence instead of loud music.

I don't mean to sound like the Imperial Dane fanclub/cheer-squad, but as the man himself commented, he already does this, not sure what you're looking for, but I've noticed Dane often point out that "X unit will help deal with Y" or similar in all the casts, as well as suggestions like 'He's saving a lot of fuel, possibly for X which could help break through this part of the map, alternatively he could go for Y which will help in case the opponent goes for Z'.
Oh and I second that Dane has a voice for casting. Oddly enough he reminds me of the manager at my last job who had a strikingly similar accent and some intonations/mannerisms.
Heyo,
Ekh, sorry I guess I wrote it wrong. I wasn't saying "the casts lack info", I was just asking for a tidbit more info. I should've mentioned there was a lot already. (The half-time analysis & PC-Lehr are especially useful)
Didn't mean to teach anyone to suck eggs! Keep casting |
Relic is a businss, their aim is money and that's great as it means more chance for a great game.
As such they probably they probably don't have Soviet or USF demons in their souls saying "buff RE troops to Obersoldaten level, lolz". And it hasn't always been so great for allies, there have been times where Axis were monstrous too (grenspam, flamer HT, Tiger Ace). Relic are just muddling their way through, trying to get the balance right to make the game more popular. I don't think they are inherently biased to either of their creations.
Unfortunately they're just not fixing the game very quickly or capably and certainly not getting the potential cash pay-off from the game.
I hope they get even greedier for money as then they'll have to accept that they've got an unpolished and weak product and maybe they'll fix it, balance it, polish it and sell it to the world, bringing more fun gameplay than the vonivan&sib-mg&sniper-ISUCKU meta. |
It's not a total lack of fuel cost. Fuel drops to zero after you call it in. |
