Yeah! I wasn't expecting any of my games at my level to get a cast Unless you had any suggestions that leaped out at you, I think I know what to improve on for my next game - MG micro and call-in infantry usage!
Just had a thought; would it make sense for Axis mortars, if they get a direct hit on an open-topped turret, for them to stun the vehicle? (at least for firing) Heard ImperialDane the other day talking about spamming M10s being OP, so I thought maybe this would be a counter to that?
You were definitely right about my thought process with the first StuG - I knew he had a lot of fuel control and I hadn't been able to harass his cutoff nearly as much as mine, and I saw the Guards, so I was terrified of being rushed by a T34-85. That's why I got the StuG and parked him in front of my AT gun, which actually worked out well for me. I see in hindsight though that a Panzer IV would have been a much better investment.
I used the Stormtroopers like I did because I wanted to harass that point, I didn't know there would be a T34 waiting there for me. Thanks a lot for your feedback on using Stormtroopers, I'll definitely make a better decision next time. I'm kicking myself now because if I didn't do that, I would have had ~600 manpower floating, and I was 1 CP away from unlocking a Tiger Ace.
I'm also kicking myself that I didn't go 444 in the early-mid game. For some reason (I've done this in more than two games now), when I see a Guards squad I panic. 444 could have overwhelmed his guards, especially with my lack of MG.
You were also totally right about the second StuG in the south; at that point in the game I was getting tired and frustrated, and it was a stupid decision that made me bail the game.
Also hats off to my opponent with keeping 7 fully-vetted squads alive the whole game. I think the only wipe I got the whole game was that first MG (and I should have got that mortar with my PGs if it wasn't glitched out).
I learned a lot that I'll try to apply in my next game, especially early-game MG placement; thanks for the cast!
Is there a micro trick to cancelling orders? If I accidentally order a machine gun to re-setup in a different direction, but they haven't begun dismantling the MG yet, is there a way to stop them from doing it? Same goes with AT guns, if they haven't picked the gun up yet, is it still possible?
I'd love to hear an analyst's thoughts on this game. I felt like he had limitless vetted infantry being thrown at me. I had almost a 2:1 K ratio and still lost the game. Felt like I had zero map control the whole game. What could I have done differently?
Things to note about this:
I was flustered by the end and lost my StuG in a stupid way.
Bad micro near the start lost me that MG in the church; wasn't paying close enough attention.
The g43s are slightly better at max range. You never want to get this upgrade. You can also use interrogation with them, which everyone seems to forget.
Do you have any tips on getting flustered? I played a few games this evening and I lost one simply due to getting flustered; I lost too many units, forgot to repair one of my tanks, and I got rushed by an OKW blob with a Panther, that I probably could have fought back had I remembered to fix up my Cromwell...
