Thread: New SC2 ESports/Replay Features22 Feb 2013, 16:22 PM Actually one of SC2's major failures at launch was it's in-game lobby system, as in, there wasn't one. There was no lobby and no lobby chat, and it was one of the biggest whining points of the community for many months. Blizzard has improved it with patches, but it's still not ideal. It's important for players to be able to meet new players within the game UI. This bolsters community interaction and helps increase the social aspect of the game. The importance of a good lobby/in-game chat system at launch is another thing that Relic can take away from the SC2 experience, but this time they could do it much better than Blizzard. Thread: Company of Heroes: The Movie22 Feb 2013, 02:34 AM It seems to have absolutely nothing to do with Company of Heroes, the game, except for the fact that it's set in WW2. It takes place at the end of the war (Dec.'44) in the Ardennes, and none of the characters have any remote relation to characters from the COH single-player campaign or from it's multi-player. They don't say any of the great COH "sayings" and they don't even have a single character in the movie named after a character in the game. It seems like the game name "Company of Heroes" was just slapped on this mediocre WW2 movie after-the-fact. It's a bit pathetic that Hollywood is so married to brand recognition that stunts like this get pulled. Every movie that comes out is a sequel of something else, or an adaptation of an already recognizable intellectual property. It's gonna make it real tough for new storytellers to get the support to tell new stories. In: COH Central
Thread: New SC2 ESports/Replay Features22 Feb 2013, 02:24 AM The customizable resource display layout is pretty sweet too. Those look like some fantastic features, and Blizzard is raising the tech bar for RTS games with regards to observing and streaming. I would love to hear Relic announce that we will get at least an Observer Mode for the release of COH2 under the Sega banner. When I first heard that COH2 was on the charts, my thought was "oh thank goodness, at least we'll finally have a proper observer mode." To then hear that it's not planned for the release, and to have to beg for it, has been a frustrating experience to say the least. Please Relic, stop wasting time messing with sectors & resource mechanics, income, upkeep, and dozens of redundant doctrine/intelbulletin/commanderwhatevers and focus on stuff that your game needs, like a slick observer mode, shared replay viewings, and in-game social options so that tournament players can set their status to "busy" and not get spammed by idiots every time they try to play a tournament game. This stuff is basic stuff that we simply need to have the chance to grow the COH Franchise as an e-sport. In: Other Games

Thread: CoH 2 Hype20 Feb 2013, 07:27 AM Marcus and I were our own little COH2 hype machine for the few months leading up to SNF S4. We did a blog post to hype COH2, almost daily. I'm feeling the effects of the downtime... we don't have any concrete dates to look forward to and it's been radio silence from the official COH2 hype machine (which was the THQ Facebook) for over 3 weeks now. Hopefully this bummer-period will be the quiet before the storm, and the machine will start pumping again. They actually have a great opportunity now to come out guns blazing. In: Lobby
