Hey guys
I saw there is an old thread about this but I would like to bring this up to speed.
I played a 2v2 yesterday. one soviet player went all mgs and then brought out zis. The other player covered with a normal build.
My original thought was to hold out for puma but by then it was too late and they had control over most of the map. I wanted to go Flaktrack but I was concerned it would get slowly cut down by mgs and if hit with a at nad... gg.
I realize this doesn't work on every map. We where playing on minsk. Since then I banned the map to avoid any more embarrassment.
Only other thing I can think of is to spam inf guns and mgs of my own.
Thoughts guys?
Thanks

As someone who likes to spam maxims, I'd like it if you tried to counter with mg's. Inf gun is a little more problematic but not much. Flanking with infiltration grenades is a major pain, especially because maxim has a really narrow firing angle. |
30-40 kills per mortar ahahaha. Whats your 1v1 rank? 30-40 kills can be if 3-4 players blob all together the whole game without doing anythin g else.
Ussualy 120 has 5-10 kills so I m using different commander tank hunter.
Tank hunter commander doesn't have 120's. If it did, axis players would be going apoplectic.
I use 120's a lot in 4v4's on city maps and get those kill numbers and sometimes more. Don't remember ever getting those numbers in 1v1 or 2v2. Kill numbers are significantly worse versus better players. |
Lately I've been seeing alot of USF players spamming jacksons. It basically hard counters the tiger whilst being at a fraction of the price. When I play USF against Ostheer my first tank is usually an Easy Eight as it easily deals with a PIV. Afterwards the E8 gets augmented by a Jackson, which easily deals with Tigers and Panthers. Its currently incredibly easy to play as USF, even easier than it was before the patch.
Ostheer has a slightly better early game since the newest patch... but the new Jackson performance did considerably nerf Ostheer's late-game performance. Mix that in with IS2 meta in team games it seems to be a nightmare now for any sort of comeback.
Thoughts?
I played my first 1v1 with Mechanized Assault since the patch. The Tiger was pretty underwhelming against the Shermans and Jacksons. I had to keep it close to my two PAKs to keep from losing it. It had a lot of squadwipes though and is now my favorite AI vehicle. I haven't checked the stats on it but it feels really slow. |
Good gracious I sure hope Relic doesn't ever read the endless idiotic posts made on this forum by the abundance of noobs that play this poorly designed and easy to play game.
What ever happened to the days when competitive 1v1 and 2v2 players were able to dissect the minute problems in a game and were able to provide well thought-out feedback and balance ideas to the game developers? I guess when you create a game that caters to being casual for the 80% of the players instead of the top 20%, this is what you get.
Well, Paul provided a well thought-out post where he argued to bring back truck-pushing.....
Maybe, just maybe, Relic shouldn't have designed a faction where all of the units were a little too efficient and then tried to balance it by giving that faction a resource penalty, which results in the faction being balanced for 4v4 or balanced for 1v1, but never both at the same time. |
I'm having a lot of difficulty countering this unit in 1v1. My typical build is multiple Volks squads with a Raketenwerfer and med truck into Panzerfusiliers and a Jagdpanzer IV, and it's not working against the IS-2. The Jagdpanzer can slug it out with the IS-2, but if there's a ZiS around you can't win - and even if there isn't, the Jagdpanzer is still unlikely to kill the IS-2.
Multiple Panzershrecks can work, I guess, but they don't reliably penetrate the IS-2's armour and getting enough hits on the vehicle to kill it is tricky when you're also dodging various Soviet infantry units.
Panther is in pretty much the same boat as the Jagdpanzer, except it's even more expensive.
Haven't tried multiple Pumas. Not sure if that might work, although I'm somewhat dubious.
Getting a King Tiger, Jagdtiger, or multiple Panthers or Jagdpanzers involves accumulating a prohibitively large amount of fuel. I don't really see any of those options as viable tbh.
Any suggestions?
Playing defensively, I've had good luck with JP4's. I use Panzerfusiliers most every game so I try to grenade the IS2 if it gets too aggressive. I usually try to have one PF, a raketen, and maybe a shrek squad somewhere around the JP4 (with the caveat that you really, really don't want the IS2 shooting at the shrek squad because it seems to wipe squads really well). I've destroyed up to 4-5 IS2's in a 1v1, including some battles that pitted 2 IS2's vs a JP4 and Panther (backed up with some amount of infantry). Can post a replay if you're interested (with the warning that I've only been playing OKW 1v1's since the last patch came out and my micro isn't the best).
PS - I never get enough fuel in 1v1's to get multiple heavies or even a single KT. |
Here are a couple of the times that worked out:
Crossing in the Woods
Langreskaya
IMO, either Panzerfusiliers or JL's are needed because if you can't see at least as far as the Soviet, then you'll get pummeled by the 120's. I have had games where even keeping squads moving did not help and bled a lot of mp to the 120's.
Langreskaya in particular seems really bad when they go Guard Motor. The one win I posted was probably the only time I won against Guard Motor on that map and it wasn't against a good opponent. Most of the time, I get pushed back into my base by the constant pounding, look out from the base with the upgraded PF's and think "What the f*** am I going to do now?" |
One of the very few times I won on Langreskaya vs Guard Motor. RNG was with me for awhile so keeping units moving helped avoid the 120's. As game wore on, I started taking a few shots and had at least one get wiped. |
By flares I mean the red indicators which warn you. AT strafe is OP, one shots most allied tanks, AI strafe is also problematic. But Stuka bombing strike is very situational and counters static targets. Of course it should counter ML-20 or B4. IL precision strike does the same thing.
Yes, but you were saying that the Stuka bomb strike has flares, which is doesn't. It isn't the lack of flares that bothers me, it's the fact that roughly 1 minute of fuel and ammo resources in a 4v4 counters 3 minutes of manpower (ML20).
The AT strafe has probably 3 seconds of warning to move your vehicles. I don't lose many units to it. Once in awhile I lose a Katy to it because I didn't notice the recon plane, but also not often. The AT strafe doesn't seem any more OP than the IL precision strike.
The problem with the doctrine is the fuel to muni conversion gives way too much munitions, so combined with really strong skills makes the commander really difficult to deal with. |
Love COH2, but you never know whether you're signing up for a 20 minute game or an hour long game in automatch. Since there's no breaks or pauses, it's like I have to prepare to ignore phone calls or anything else for the next hour while I play.
Does anyone else feel the same way? I know I can make a custom game, but those are such a crapshoot when it comes to skill level. Has there ever been any discussion around this?
A 20 minute game would completely screw over OKW in 1v1. Nobody would play. If you want a 20 minute game, just play the computer. |
I really do feel like IS2 is better vs Infantry.
When used against me, IS2 seems to wipe more, but Tiger kills faster and forces more retreats. Infantry around IS2 feels like inverse lottery (miss, long wait, miss, long wait, squad wipe). Tiger sometimes one shots, but more often gets 2-3 models and forces retreat.
IS2 doesn't need nerf any more than any other heavy tank. It is anything but invincible. |
