Explosive damage being reduced by heavy cover was a good mechanic. Why the change? It certainly wasn't realism. Sandbags are still used today to stop frag from explosive weapons. Anyone can bring up good points, even trolls. It is Relic's fault for making a shitty unit and coding themselves into a corner which has been a consistent theme for this game.
