Sure, but there is one problem.
What if you need indirect fire?
For support weapons (defensive play), I will either use a sniper and/or IS with arty upgrade. Depending on the map, the Brit player can focus on the other side of the map where the defense is weak and harass the flanks.
Not to mention, the British do have a very nice commander with land mattress arty for more aggressive play.
