To Old school vCoH players: Why do you choose CoH2?

If vCoH was remaked with better graphics, better sound effects and an optimized engine, I would choose it over CoH2 all the way.


1s and 2s - I agree
3s and 4s - not so much.

well, in first ever COH2 alpha or beta, this game was really shit, i was like "CoH1 forever in my heart and CoH2 you suck" Relic worked on new game, wanted to make it better and CoH1 was already a dead game, i know that some stuff if taken from CoH2 and put it in CoH1 would make it an awesome game, but there's this, if only relic would....

Like remapping the controls is a inbuild Feature which exists since decades and coh1 and coh2 didnt manage to implement it?:hansWUT:

More gameplay options and tactical dephts (vaulting and true sight), better accessibility (grid keys, army and production overview), better unit responsibility.

But then: The Armies in vCoH felt somewhat more authentic and diverse, units seemed tougher (as in: less instagibbing and wipes) and cooler sidetech and the supply depot upgrades.

Both games suffer from design and balance flaws. vCoHs cloak, kangaroo and piospam comes to mind.

I still play a lot of CoH 1, and compared to CoH 2 it actually has a lot more issues, especially when it comes to balance.

First off, snipers, they are just extremely annoying, everyone uses them, most often 2 or more, Allies lack a decent counter while Axis don't have so much trouble with them due to PE's fast scout cars and the Schwimmwagen, the Jeep is just crap, even if it's fast.

US actually has a disadvantage when it comes to the early game, T1 is the only thing that you an build if you actually plan on winning, T2 is obsolete, except in teamgames, since you will just get stomped by snipers and you have absolutely no counter, except getting snipers on your own, which won't work since Wehr T1 combines a decent scouting vehicle with snipers, inf and mg (overall a lot better than what US gets).

Endless armor call ins for only MP can be really annoying, in some games you will have to fight endless amounts of Stuhs and Tigers.

The Brit blobs are just out of this world and nearly indestructible, except if you somehow manage to drop some arty on them.

The vet system for Wehr is nice and I always liked it but some units really become way too op when they reach vet 3. Knights Cross take literally no damage or suppression from anything, you can only kill them with nades, arty or tanks.

The Units in general jump around too much, leaving cover etc.
path finding for vehicles is terrible, no reverse.

I definitely prefer CoH 2 now, even though I still enjoy CoH 1.

CoH1 is still the superior game, but unless you play basics it's almost impossible to get a good match. The amount of money esl and such are investing into tourneys and events is a good thing for coh2 though.

Things that coh2 also did right:
True LoS (even if it can be frustratingly buggy at times)
Mantle
More variety in automatch maps (even if most are kinda shitty)
Arguably cap circles

Relic has shown time and time again their complete and utter incompetence when it comes to game balance and faction design though, combined now with their obvious greed by introducing more and more blatantly pay2win commanders into the game. On the one hand, coh1 is 'safe' of that. On the other hand, coh2 might one day be balanced and improved in design while coh1 will die a slow but inevitable death.
