Hey guys, I got bored of telling everyone to L2P so I made a quick presentation that covers a few key skills I think everyone should try and master. It's nothing terribly fancy, I just want people to start thinking about this stuff more. Consciously incorporate these fundamentals into your build orders and strategies and you'll be a much better player.

Do you recommend any specific vidoes from day9tv? You know that there are something like 100 ~one hour long videos from newbie Tuesdays?

I watched some of the videos from day9tv channel on youtube and I must say that it really helps. Now I see a bigger picture, probably not big as pro players but way bigger for me than it was before. Now I am focusing on different things.

My problem was tunnel vision on current screen and microing squads but I have been forgetting about other stuff like making new squads or microing other units on the map. It is still the problem but now I know what was the reason of it.

I recommend these videos from day9tv youtube (I watched them): 184, 252, 257, 261, 312.

I recommend something similar from 'old' Inverse :D based on CoH1 which still works in CoH2. Why? Because he explains a bit there a difference between CoH and SC plus it is more similar to CoH2 which is GOOD.

Cmasupra has too some good stuff based on CoH1 which helps in CoH2. CoH tips or something like this. Some obvious things which I didn't remember/know.

His videos on adjustments is pretty good.

It's a great way of teaching how to analyze your own gameplay and refine your builds.

Well. Looks at Dullahan.

Would you like this to be converted into a guide for CoH2.org?

Went through and watched some more. (It has been a few years) 341, 352, 360 and 419 are pretty solid.

The best way is just to avoid the ones that are super focused on Starcraft 2 gameplay, but the ones that mention stuff about improving your play. Those skills are all transferable to any RTS.

I dunno, it's kind of a quick and dirty thing. I'm okay with it if someone wants to post it up or whatever but I think the concept could be done in a lot more detail.

Only thing I would add is under the float section, there are times where a CP window is coming for a certain unit you want so floating in these situations are ok.

True, but I don't know if it is possible to word it so that such piece of advice wouldn't become a bad one for the beginner. Its easier to tell: don't float and then after some time teach when to float than allow floating when waiting for a unit letting beginners do the reasoning that obviously they were waiting for one unit or another. Like imagine someone waiting for fuel on his T-70 with +10 fuel while he is not building infantry becouse he is scared he won't have enough mp then. T-70 is a extreme example but this one happens even to pros in case of panther or KT.

Then the next question is: would you like to add that detail? To work it into a proper guide?

I remember that you were a Senior Strategist Specialist for the DoW2 section of Gamereplays, years ago now. About the same time I was a writer for the that section. Of course, this is assuming you are the same Dullahan as the one from GR.

Thanks man. Those videos are great. Now it is waaaaay simpler for me than it was before.

Do you know any good youtubers with CoH1/CoH2 tips/guides content? Not with replays because I know all casters. I watched everything from cmasupra and Inverse.

Btw. I still don't know how to work with control groups. I read that too many control groups isn't a good thing. Luvnest set control groups to the most important units like vehicles, tanks, snipers, at guns etc. Some players like Hans doesn't use them at all but in my opinion it is not efficient to limit yourself in this way.

Maybe it depends only from personal preference.

Not specifically. I don't know of too many people really interested in making this sort of content for CoH1/CoH2. There is the "Tales of Heroes" series from Bridger which has some newbie tips that are pretty good and also www.gamereplays.org which has a ton of Coh1 content. (But I dunno if I'm allowed to mention them here...)

Control groups is very much a personal thing.

I was a high level Dawn of war 2 player for a few years before CoH2 came out, and that game you typically have 4-8 units at a time so every unit had a control group. When I first started playing Coh2 it took me a long time to get comfortable not using them because there's simply way too many units to play the way I did in DoW2.

What I do is I use control groups similarly to Luvnest. In the early game my support weapons get control groups but eventually it's just things like snipers, mortars/artillery and vehicles. Everything else I control by clicking on them. Generally I like 1-2 for snipers/support weapons and 3-6 for vehicles.

I am indeed one and the same.

I'm considering it. I'm debating doing a video series on it, but if I can't get that the way I want then a written guide is a good possibility.

Ah, I see. Let me know if you need any help with script or guide writing then. I'll give you some feedback and/or edit it for you. It doesn't matter whether it is a video series or a guide, as both can be put into the Guides.

If you want any art, then it might be worth asking one of the Artists(Links to the Staff List). They may be able to make a piece or two for you, or more, depending on how long you want to take to make the guide slash videos.

Oh, and if you want to, you could PM Van Voort with a Strategist application.

P.S. There are no rules against mentioning GameReplays.org.
