They seem to be performing better then I thought they usually are. Or am I just having a placebo effect playing OKW now?

Must be my imagination then. Because I had a fall squad take on shock troops + a penal squad attacking at once. But then again I had house cover to my advantage that time.

That is the secret to falls that no one gets, they are glass cannons (arguably not good for a unit that will most likely spawn behind enemy lines). If you spawn them in a house behind your enemy's defensive line and keep them garrisoned in there while you assault with your main troops from the front they will release hell. Green cover and garrisoned bonus allows them to kill with impunity, however with the recent flame changes... It's not as easy to get away with.

Not to forget the change in unit spacing particularly helped falls since they were formerly clumping like tortilla chips in cheese dip...
