I don't want to stream in 1440p. I want to record locally in 1440p, and stream at 1180p (or whatever it is after the ratio I apply) as usual (twitch can't handle my 1440p upload).

*1152p after 1.25 res downscale


Oh I see I must have misread something, somewhere. As you say it would probably be worth considering going back to 2 PC setup, less stress on your system and hardware.

Samsung 850 Pro, but your old X58 motherboard will limit it somewhat.

12GB is fine... If anything, the old i7 920 workhorse may start stressing since its turbo clock is 2.9 Ghz and getting to be a pretty old platform in general (no sata3, usb3, etc). The 4790K I just picked up for example goes up to 4.4Ghz turbo. The 920 will handle almost anything still but for what you're describing you may find its limit.

If I remember right your going to be running it on a motherboard with SATAII ports. So your probably better off going for the Crucial as its cheaper and you'll never really get either of them up to they're maximum capabilities on SATAII so no need to spend the extra money.

SATAII average max read/write speeds are about 280MB/s. there are obviously variations in this though.

The 850 Pro is superior in every way to the MX100.

MX100 = budget SSD

850 Pro = Best SSD on the market right now

Yeah it's just a money matter. SSDs are still increasing in capacity / dropping in price pretty fast, so depends if the extra hundred(s) are a big deal.

Crucial is a better choice than the non-pro though, if anyone was wondering.

Gonna buy this finally. Held off long enough that my windoze is starting to act stupid (as windoze always eventually does). Might as well re-install on a new SSD.

Is the Samsung 850 Pro still the best option for me, dyathink?

I can get the Samsung MZ-75E250B 250 GB, SSD(schwarz, SATA 600, 850 EVO (Basic)) from my German mailorder retailer for € 109,90.

Just go for the 500 GB 850 Evo. Pro isn't worth it atm for basic usage.
Evo has more than enough host writes and 5 years warranty.

Btw.: on amazon.de you won't pay for shipping.

Question: Samsung's "Magician" SSD Optimization software suggests running the BIOS in AHCI mode instead of IDE mode. But when I try to do that, windows goes BSOD (BLUE SCREEN OF DEATH) on me after "Starting Windows...". I tried pulling all of the other drives out and just running the Samsung on AHCI and same result. IDE works fine. Is this a mobo problem? Any ideas, Bud or others?

Yep, BSOD happens when you installed Windows in IDE mode and you tried to launch it in AHCI mode.
