Only thing it had to excuse its existence was countering OKW trucks, but other then that, its completely useless and always was. Normal Sov flame arty barrage is incomparably better then it. Thats kind of common sense. Single shreck can't even kill M20 unless garrisoned. Single ATG isn't a counter, but a deterrent. If you don't have supporting unit, be it handheld AT, AT snare or another ATG, then a single ATG won't counter anything above 320hp unless user fucks up and will be countered in return. Counter arty options could be left as they are, but they shouldn't be in such powerful meta doctrines as they are now-it should be hipster style doctrines, just like the doctrines with arty. If it could swap to a "normal" main gun (like the KV-8) as well as the flame gun it would make much more sense. Unless it can I am really missing something? You actually are missing quite important thing. KV-8 had its 75mm gun replaced by smaller, 45mm gun(disguised as normal 76mm, 45mm cannon was inside 76mm barrel) and flame thrower added to that. There was no problem for KV-8 to use both, because they didn't excluded each other, flame thrower was mounted next to MG, cannon was next to it. Flame hetzer had its 75mm gun completely removed and replaced by 14mm flamethrower. Its impossible from any logical point of view for it to be anything else then flame tank in this variant. You can just place them next to a dead cow and they will perform at ober level. I always thought the cover bonus they get should have been gained with vet. The cover bonus improves them by about 7% if I remember correctly. REs vet1 cover bonus is much more potent. In: COH2 Balance

Pretty much this. In any game that allows you for sandboxy customization of your skills/abilities/armies it always boils down to a single IWIN build which you are punished for not using.
