Thread: General World War 2 Discussion Thread8 Jul 2014, 18:34 PM Yeah, my issue is more with the assertions of the effectiveness of Western Air Power in supressiong German production pre-1944 Strategic Bombing has not yet directly decreased production because it is still going up - for a variety of reasons not including Speer. However it has forced a lot of production into counter air work (Flak and Fighters) that would otherwise be on the Eastern front killing T34s and Il-2s. Whilst Western tactical air is dominant over France, that doesn't have impact on what happens in White Russia In: The Library

The German industry was suffering from the bombing raids and the supplies were attacked constantly by the RAF and the American Air Force because the had the air superiority! Panzerdivisions could not operate because of the Bombers. Same on the eastern front were the russians outnumbered the germans and used their tacrics against them! Yet war production peaked in 1944. Something Speer took credit for Though really a reflection of disorganisation and not going for Total War until 1944 In: The Library

There are plenty of people who buy into the narrative above, and sometimes with the apologia that tends to go with it (It was not the Army that committed war crimes it was the SS; it was not the Waffen SS that commited war crimes it was camp guards) None of that makes you are Nazi though In: COH2 Balance

But the short version would be: The Germans got to write the History of the Eastern Front, and were therefore able to present themselves as tactically superior but overwhelmed by Soviet numbers and let down by inferior Strategic leadership (we would have won had it not been for that meddling Hitler) Add to that that they have the nicer uniforms and a bewildering variety of PanzerPorn (which is in turn a symptom of their weakness not their strength) = Germans enter Popculture as the Cool Guys Meanwhile the Soviets are drunken and illiterate masses who won only by spam That did not really begin to get redressed until the 80s and especially 90s when the Soviet archives opened up. The soviets at that time needed way more micro, way more skill and nobody would play them but the really dedicated and really hardcore community players. Or those that just want a game without an long wait time Or Soviet "fanboys", who do exist, but they are less prevelent or vocal than the German kind In: COH2 Balance
