You guys must be hiding a secret from me!
Where could I get CoH2 for free so that I don't feel so entitled?

That's an awful idea. PlanetSide 2 is a failure and that Roadmap is a large part of the reason. In: COH2 Gameplay |

I don't find it all that predictable. Break the mould in how you play and what your build orders are. It forces your opponent to do something unorthodox in response or lose. It makes for interesting gameplay if you intentionally do strange build orders. In: Strategy Desk |

It's an enjoyable game, but not something I play hardcore. One day ever week or two I might play 5 or 6 games. In: Other Games |

Thread: Competitive Gaming (eSports)17 Jul 2013, 13:06 PM
I'm interested in gaining an idea about members opinions on competitive gaming, so I've come up with a few questions that will help me understand other people's take on it. 1. It varies due to how it is implemented, but Ladder can be competitive. For example, I consider StarCraft 2's ladder as competitive. I do not consider Dawn of War II's ladder a competitive. Past that, it is prized tournaments. Unprized Tournaments are fun, but it is a large time commitment for no real reward, might as well play ladder. 2. I've dabbled in competitive gaming across numerous games, but nothing serious. I played in all the tournaments in DoW II but performed generally pretty poorly, never getting past the 3rd round. 3. I don't really watch streams of games I don't play unless I have interest in buying it and I want to see some gameplay. 4. No. 5. Polish. You can't have a competitive game if it has bugs. That's just simple fact. Buggy games can't be competitive because bugs are random factors players cannot account for. StarCraft II for example. Wasn't anything new in design, but it was consistent. Units did what they were meant to do, there weren't any major bugs of note, and the game played smoothly from start to finish. That said, compared to CoH2 it is very basic in design and has less factors available to fuck up. But that doesn't change the facts. In addition, publisher/developer sponsored tournaments. Once every 6-12 months or so. Notable Prize Pool. In between these events, other tournaments that are exclusive. Say, 32 player tournament and only the top 50 can join. This encourages people to try and improve on ladder. In between the exclusive events, you could have open ones. Winners of those ones could qualify for an exclusive tourny or something. 6. No. 7. Not who, what. What you need is tools. The only people that can provide that is Relic. I've been over this - we need Spectator Mode, Chat Lobbies, and tiered Ladder systems. This all in of themselves will encourage player growth, and that in turn will produce more quality players, which will in turn improve the competitive community, which will in turn give more content for casters and commentators, which will in turn gather interest for the game, which will in turn get more people to play it. Self-Fulfilling Prophecy. But first we need tools. In: Lobby |
Thread: Growing the Community17 Jul 2013, 12:23 PM
There are three things that this game needs to grow; Spectator Mode Ladders Chat Lobbies Spectator Mode is an invaluable tool, for some reason abandoned by CoH2. Firstly, it's great for tournaments. It allows for games to be casted live and some of my fondest memories of DoWII are watching the best players duke it out on a live stream, or being watched if I ever played. It's also an amazing learning tool. I improved my game so much and helped others improve through use of the Spectator Tool in custom games. CoH2 doesn't have a kind learning curve to people new to Relic games, and that will dissuade whatever casual playerbase we have from continuing to play. Making friends through global chat lobbies and having people spectate your games for you to help you learn not only makes you feel obligated to keep playing and improving, but it also hastens the process in a more enjoyable manner. Ladders are also very important for the new player experience, you'd be surprised to know. But only if it's done in a StarCraft 2-esque manner. We need Leagues. Bronze, Silver, Gold. We don't need past that because our playerbase isn't all that large. Leagues are extremely encouraging when trying to keep people playing. It's that feeling that you are in competition with all of these people, that you are progressing and that you are improving. This motivates you to play more. When you lose, you want to play again until you win, so you can keep your position and can progress your rank or stop yourself dropping a League. The Ladder system isn't done yet, and if we were getting this kind of deal I'd personally wait longer for it. Ladder in of itself is extremely important for all players, because everybody doesn't want to waste time on something if they don't feel like they're getting better over time. But Leagues take that to a whole new level. They integrate competition with just playing the game, and that's an invaluable thing to have when you're trying to foster a large community that lasts. From all of these things, we get our commentators, our casters, our Day9-esque players. Give us these things and the community will do the rest and make use of the tools we're given. Nobody wants to play a game with a dead or bad community, and people will work to make it larger and better of their own accord. All they need is the tools. In: COH2 Gameplay |

I play in 1v1 and still have issues with grenade dodging. It is not input lag it is auto-cover. Furthermore, I'm sick of losing fights because my Grenadiers think it's a good idea to dive for cover where that Molotov was just thrown. In: COH2 Gameplay |
Thread: Relic; It's Time We Had That Talk17 Jul 2013, 01:31 AM
As a side note, I as a customer hate the idea of public Roadmaps. From playing that failure of a game, PlanetSide 2, I saw how SOE manipulated the Roadmap to make it look like they were always doing a good job. On top of that I search for 1v1's and it says only 10-20 people are searching.... for a game roughly a month old! This is perfectly fine. Games in 1v1 take anywhere up to 45 minutes, to have 20 or so people searching concurrently isn't really an indication of anything. That said, the CoH2 population is roughly half what it was at launch, with 2.9% of people playing MP, we can surmise about ~300 people playing games at peak time. 600 if we're optimistic. If you actually looked around or, I don't know, READ Relic posters replies, you would know that Relic has a several year plan to support CoH 2. That should answer most your questions about if DLC is coming etc. Relic also had a plan to support Dawn of War II for a number of years. Then the entire team got laid off and who gives a shit about promises amirite? A healthy skepticism of the developer team is always good. No disrespect intended Noun, but aren't the guy in charge and you can't guarantee me or anybody anything, so while your comments are appreciated on my part, I don't quite believe them. Not out of any possible malice intent you may or may not have, but simply due to the fact that you aren't in charge of where this game goes, and when it comes right down to it you're doing your job. But you've said as much yourself. Though I do have as many gripes with the game as there are grains of sand, I do understand the difficulties involved in development, having had quite a few insights into the development process over the years. So I'm not an impatient man when it comes to development schedule, I am however, an invested consumer who has put a lot of time and is planning on putting hundreds of hours into this game. And I want to have confidence that this was a good investment. Right now I do not. Whether Relic is addressing key issues or not that massively effect the polish and smooth gameplay of CoH2(As outlined in my rant/quote earlier in this thread) has not been said and as such I feel like my investment has been poorly placed. Until this starts getting fixed, or a fix is promised somewhere down the line, I will remain skeptical. As such when I see any bugs or problems in this game all I think about is Dawn of War II and how that situation was handled, so forgive my disillusion with what developers say on this or that forum. Thread: Relic; It's Time We Had That Talk16 Jul 2013, 20:35 PM
Actions speak louder than words. I'm happy(as always) when developers post on forums. They usually have long and/or insightful comments and they're enjoyable to read. I appreciate Dev Communication(Even if it is their job, Relic has spoiled me in that regard), but I appreciate patch notes, and bug fixes, more. As I said, balance will never be a concern for me. It doesn't effect the quality of my game, nor does it effect the new-player experience. My most aggravating qualms will always and forever be bugs, and I will always take a pessimistic stance in that regard where Relic is concerned after my experiences in Dawn Of War II.
