Hey Karny,

Looks like we are one of the few to get a 1on1 mentorship so that's cool. We should get a day where we can meet and watch replays and talk about stuff so post below what days are good for you. I was thinking of using Skype for talking and stuff (pretty sure we can use it to share screens if need be) the rest on steam. I will send you my Skype info through steam.

About me:

Never played coh1 other then the demo a few times. during that time I was cutting my teeth in a little game called world in conflict, which has similar mechanics as this but set in a fictional ww3 setting. Played a lot of 1v1 got pretty good at the end sadly wasn't much people left playing. last few years or so I 've been drifting from game to game trying to find one that had the same great feel as wic. Got in to the coh2 beta stress test got hooked and have been improving ever since.

Played in two coh2 tourneys so far, plan on playing in the new esl one. Got to the round of 8 in the ipkia tourney for NA and didn't make it past the first round in the tfn tourney.

My plans for coh2 are to win a tourney and become the best player.

Ya looks like a solid build from which to use SRC from again. Haven't found a good one since the patch came out.

Team games can't be the base line for 1v1 balance. T-70 suffers from the same circumstances as the T-34. When they pop, Ostheer is starting to ramp up armor production so you need AV and not AI, they are too weak to win vs. any Ostheer armor and they delay the SU-85 considerably. They can also easily be shut down by Panzergrenadiers.

Lowering the fuel cost would put them on field earlier, force an earlier panzershreck on the german side (well, he'll get one either way) and gives it more room (time) to maneuvre, while improving the T3->T4 transition situation (which currently is extremely hard to do with the current meta).

I must be boss then I quite often go t3 get a t-70 and m5 and easily transition into su85's soon after Ostheer has tanks. Not to mention that a lot of the time (not always) t-70 just makes pgrens dance.

Now I only ever get a t-34/76 after I have at least two su-85's out cause otherwise they are crap vs. p4's and cost too much to ever lose unlike t-70.

To answer the title;

Not likely. Games don't grow. That's why releasing unfinished or WIP games is the worst thing you can ever do in this business. But I do foresee CoH2 lasting maybe 2/3 as long as CoH1.

I think most of you are thinking that this game is going to be supported like a normal release, whereas what I've heard from devs they seem to plan to provide support for this game for a while. Yes things are missing, are they working on it? yes. is it possible that something happens ands they don't end up providing support for as long as they planed or as well as we wish? possibly.

Games grow because people grow it. Yes having certain features that currently don't exist help people to grow it, but at the end of the day this game will grow or die because of the people who play it and how they effect others. Not because we didn't have leaderboards 3 weeks after launch.

•What do you consider to be competitive gaming?
Any game where two or more people play against each other in an attempt to achieve something.

•What games have you considered to have played competitively? How involved did you get? How was your performance in these games?
a little sc2 amateur and some tournaments in world in conflict with my clan. In both cases didn't get very far.

•For games you don't play do you watch any vods or streams? If so which games?
I no longer play sc2 but every once in a while I'll watch a tourney, mostly for the story lines not so much for the games themselves.


•Have you ever been to an offline or in person competitive event?

•What do you believe makes a game competitive?
That would be levels of distention like leaderboards and tournaments, as well as no one beat all strategy that both players have to use to win. At the end of the day it has to be fun and complex enough to engage players in a way to keep pushing themselves to beat, at least one other player.


•Have you produced any content or organised any competitive events for any games? If not are you interested?
I once ran a stream and YouTube channel for world in conflict for about 2 months or so. Am I interested in doing something with coh2? yes. Do I really have the time for it, to bring it to the quality I would want? no.

•Who do you believe is instrumental in building a strong competitive community?
People. It always comes down to people. Casters and events for producing interesting stories of people. Players having a personality showing they are more then screen names and are people. At the end of the day anyone can easily walk away from a game, but they can't easily walk away from a friend. The more you connect people, the more people who will want to join in.

Tools are great and they can help make everything easier but at the end of the day tools only help us to connect to other people, they aren't the connections themselves. You can have great tools like leaderboards, chat rooms, and in-game viewing tools but if your not connecting people and telling stories it doesn't matter how many great tools you have cause you won't have many people for long.
