"I am used to" is an idiomatic phrase in English that means I'm accustomed to something. When used as verb, it uses normal tenses and is the English imperfect. Ie., "he used to be strong." In French that would be "Une fois il etait fort." But it's never used in the present tense because it always refers to the past.
