Later uparmored versions with long guns did ok against tanks, but like was mentioned from covered positions. You want to see real counterpart to Su85 you look at Jagdpanzer4. Ugh at the cost getting dragged into a pointless debate.. no. Go look at the armor thickness and the penetration power of the two tanks. They were almost equal. The jagdpzr4 (well most of them) had the same cannon as the panther, so its gun had much more penetrating power than the 85mm on the su85. If you don't want to believe me, just go look at the real world specifications of these two tanks... but it doesn't matter anyway cause this is a video game. Relic has thrown out realism for balance/game mechanics so many times it really is just a waste of time to argue about this. In: COH2 Gameplay

It was the PE´s Marder III. You know why it was balanced? To outrange other tanks it had to deploy. Thus it could actually be flanked. Maybe this is a solution for the Su-85. It could get it´s sight and range increase only when deployed. Yeah it was sluggish (awful turning) and fragile, but fast. I think the SU85 should be similar in feel. In: COH2 Balance

ITs main enemy are Su76 and T34, both of which it beats hands down. You are not supposed to attack Su85 with it, never mind heavy tanks. The Stugs "problem" is that Pz4 is so outwordly OP while costing not much more. Oh and Ostwind as well. And it's ok that the SU85 can take down all tanks? The StuG was an assault gun that evolved into a tank destroyer. Their roles and stats should be similar, although I think relic wants some asymmetry for the sake of game "flavor"... then again the is2 and the tiger feel exactly the same... In: COH2 Gameplay
Thread: Weekend Challenge: Stugs3 Aug 2013, 04:59 AM Honestly, I don't think the smaller target size is going to make a difference when their gun range is so small. Really, this is only good as a cost-effective counter to T34 spam... and that's about it. Sure it can take out lighter vehicles too, but what tank can't? It's penetration is unreliable against heavies (kv8, is2, is152) and it's just so fragile. It blows against infantry and it's mg upgrade is useless. Its role is so niche and it sucks against just about anything that is heavier than a T34. This unit really needs some love here. In: COH2 Gameplay
Thread: SU-85; The Thread1 Aug 2013, 18:37 PM This thing is too good. I wish T3 had some viable AT options , then this thing would get the nerf it deserves. Like many have said, this is the soviet player's best choice, and for some cases, only choice for mobile AT once mid-game hits. T1 to T3 doesn't work, even with guards, so people who start with that building have to go T4 (or T2 if you wanna hold out for heavies). Either the t34/76 should be more AT capable, or add in a doctrinal unit that acts as AT (4cp AT gun/su-100? Although this most likely won't happen). The 85mm upgrade for t34/76 seems like the best option imo... If anything, this unit needs to be more sluggish and/or fragile. And give the STUG its range back!! In: COH2 Balance
Thread: SdKfz 222 Scout Car23 Apr 2013, 01:37 AM i think germans need a heavier light vehicle. i'm not knocking down the scout car, i think its great for what it does but i think germans are missing something right between the halftrack/sc and panzer4/stug. maybe the stug filled that position before but now with the homogenization of vehicles stats and prices there's this huge gap in tech that needs filling.
