Profile of Spinflight

So say I have a squad knocked down to 1 man, garrisoning him would be just as effective as a 4 or 5 man squad?

Can units fire out of an emplacement? If so are there any restrictions?

I assume you get increased rate of fire or whatnot from a garrison but what are the exact specs?

How do you get Brens to fire out of a UC then? Mine just go up in flames the moment someone with a bad cold sneezes on them burning most of the infantry section inside to a crisp. Never seen anyone firing out of them as they did in COH.

I might be crap ( hint: I am) but built ten UCs last game, one made it to vet1 but was instantly one shotted before I could revel in my glory....

Are we playing the same game here? Bren carriers can take punishment?? Really? Never mind Axis forces, a blind school girl's 3rd XI hockey team flicking their pony tails at it in a slightly aggressive manner would be enough to see it loitering around my base whilst I wait to tech up so I can repair the bugger. Saying that if the 3.5 tons of quarter inch thick armour happens to trip over a blade of grass on the way back to base it's toast.

My toaster probably has better armour come to think of it, and I don't have a particularly good toaster. It isn't even metal.

90 munitions for a flamethrower which is only useful if the opposition are too stupid to fart in it's general direction or a mobile machinegun which seems to do the square root of fuck all. Suppressive fire? Volks kill it before it suppresses anything!

As for a troop transport... Unfortunately the great and noble British Tommys seem to have some form of inbuilt AI as whenever I ask them to board a UC they mutiny and shoot each other in the heads instead to save time.

Is it just me?

Well I'm both old and crap...

Might even be able to figure out what some of the buttons do playing against the AI.

Anyone know the mechanics behind this feature?

For instance with a mortar pit does it make a difference whether you put a lone sniper in compared to a 4 or 5 man IS? How does veterancy work both for the emplacement crew and the garrison? Do some squads make for better garrisons than others and what are the actual stat increases?

I'm thinking it might be worth garrisoning something like a mortar pit or bofors in order to boost it's vetting ability though the huge manpower sink makes it risky unless there is a big payoff.

I realise it isn't a historical simulation however the reason detre behind the British adoption of an 88mm rather than the 105s preferred by most other western Forces might give a hint as to the direction this could go.

Larger numbers of lower calibre artillery was preferred for their ability to suppress enemy troops, also for volume massed fire against armoured formations. Indeed artillery was the prime cause of tank kills, both from indirect fire and the 25pdrs added role of anti-tank gun with a supercharged red powder bag ( direct fire, nowt to do with the COH range increase).

Also British doctrine put a heavy emphasis on smoke when assaulting an enemy position. Creeping barrages ( for which the 25pdr was considered a bit heavy) of HE then smoke so the infantry could get close in and personal.

Both NGFS and inland fires called for timely weight of accurate fire. Now clearly the current ability is neither timely, weighty nor accurate. I don't claim to be a good player, although I do have a 100% win rate ( at least until I play my second game), so am just looking to give some historical foundation on which those who know the game mechanics more intimately could comment...
