Wait, how in god's name did you make the USF fighting position be able to take in mortars?
I tried adding mortar teams to it's "inside" option or whatever and it didn't work, or did you find a work-around? |
I think that CoH 3 should either improve on CoH 1 or do a mix between the 2.
What I'm thinking of is the same as what the ToV campaigns and mods did, that is increased the doctrine abilities to 16 instead of just 6, or the second option as you mentioned, sub-specializations.
So for example, you have Infantry Company for the US, you can specialize in defense, riflemen or better logistics or production or whatever.
If you go Airborne, you can specialize in Airborne invasions which will be big scale but cost a lot of resource and have large cool downs, or specialize in making Paratroopers better, or having better Air Support if you plan on using a lot of ammunition on strafing or bombing runs.
Or Mechanized Company, you can specialize in Tanks, that is upgrades for your current tanks and unlock more, better and more Light vehicles, mechanized infantry, rapid production of vehicles and so forth.
For Germany you can have the same, defensive doctrine which can further specialize in concrete defenses, meaning better fortified defensive lines, or Quick Reaction Forces (QRF) that meaning mechanized Grenadiers with StuG support for example, Infantry, thus meaning better and more infantry units as well as experience and so forth, or cheaper light defenses and so on and so on.
You can also have Mechanized again which would re-introduce early war Blitzkrieg tactics with mechanized Panzergrenadiers supported by let's say, Panzer IIIs (counter to the QRF, better infantry, shittier tanks), again, better and more tanks and experienced tank crews, some that helps medium tanks so you can let's say field more StuGs.
And then maybe you can get into the later war stuff with the 3rd doctrine and it's later specializations like Wunderwaffe which grants you the Sturmtiger, Owl halftrack, infra-red equipped StGs for infantry, Volksgrenadiers, defensive emplacements and so forth.
The Brits could get like Canadian Support specialization through a doctrine like in Age of Empires 3 with the Asian Dynasties which can choose to either buff their already existing units or call in foreign units which could work here as well, a Doctrine that specializes more on raiding forces such as Royal Marine Commandos, Airborne Commandos (SAS basically) and glider airborne operations, then they could have a Combined Arms doctrine which could further specialize into heavier use of Infantry, Armor or Artillery, so you'd get buffed infantry with the first option and Tanks and Arty would act in more of a support role and vice versa for the other 2 options.
Basically every Army would again have a gimmick with it's doctrines, America would be using their numbers and production (economy or logistics, whatever you wanna call it), Britain would be using it's experience from past wars, while Germany will be using it's training, experience as well as eras or stances from the war, so you'd be provided with the option of enacting an early war sort of Blitzkrieg stance, a mid war sort of defensive and counter-attack stance and a later war heavier defensive and wonder weapon stance or whatever you wanna call it again.
At least that's my idea that is. |
As some smart person that I don't personally know has said.
All is fair in war and love.
And,
Life is unfair, as well as war.
The last one I don't know if it's an actually quote or not but yeah, you get what I mean.
People play the game because of the unknown, because it provides a different scenario every time, a different situation, while in StarCraft 2 for example you know your build order, you know your units, and if you know who and what you're facing, you're set, while here there's always the great unknown. You or the enemy could have solid plans but everything can go to hell in a second because RNG wasn't on your side, like it is in real life.
That's why I have said and will say again, CoH is not a competitive franchise and never will be, it caters more to the casual and semi-realistic peeps that just wanna have fun in the game and experience real life LIKE engagements and fire fights, not a StarCraft 2 robot vs robot fight. |
Hey Hooligan,
Our Web Team are aware of the issue and are working on a fix now. It shouldn't be difficult and we will have this resolved as soon as possible.
Edit: Also ranking/ ladders are working in the background as intended. This is only a display issue. Games being currently played are counting and will be shown once we fix the display issue.
Wait people are still working on this game? |
You wanna know when?
When AoE 4 or CoH 3 is released, that's when. |
Still i enjoy the game with only 2 armies not like i had to paid the full collector's bundle to enjoy the game.
Both game you had to purchase DLC to get more features so it doesn't really had anything to do with 1st or 2cd.But ofc some older game are better then their new sibling.
I strongly disagree, CoH was sold as a cake and had only Standalone expansions.
CoH2 has 2 expansions as well but riddled with DLC. |
Squad AI was one of the more realistic CoH mechanics that pulled in a lot of people, CoH 2's units are like robots in comparison, they only have one stance and that's about it, units in CoH had more character, they yelled when they were winning, dying, losing, getting pinned, facing tanks, getting hit by grenades, crouching, moving up, taking cover, rolling and so forth, it felt like a real tactical engagement.
The only thing I didn't like was my units running out of cover, as well as my snipers moving out of my set position, that's why I wanted to add a stand ground toggle ability for them in my mod or another mod possibly.
I respect the need for StarCraft 2 like unit movement like in Dawn of War 3 for competitive play but I just don't think CoH has what it takes to be competitive, it has far too much RNG in it but that's what makes it so unique and semi-realistic and not entirely just arcady.
I think that we have enough competitive and arcady franchises and that we need more semi-realistic or fully simulator like realistic games.
Leave CoH and DoW alone with what made them highly praised and unique and loved for, and make a new franchise solely for the competitive scene if you ask me, at least that's what I'd do if I was Relic. |
My wishes are for a 3rd Axis Army, full mod support like in CoH and perhaps custom commanders, not sure yet about the last one. |
Yeah i can get why i never play any 1st game, but serious every RTS game you had to paid money to play.As for the DLC no one forced me to buy any of them and i still enjoy RTS without those thing.
Well it's logical to buy a game first in order to play it, there are no F2P RTS games, thing is, expansions are like an extension to a pie or a cake, DLC are small pieces of a pie. When you order a cake for a birtbday, do you order a whole cake or just pieces of a cake? This is of course just an example.
But yeah, try out the first games, you may find you like them more than the 2nd ones, I know that I have been like that in most cases. |
I think that 9 commanders for the WFA and 20 something is good enough for the EFA.
Bulletins as well.
Maps can be community created as most of them already are.
The only thing really missing is a 3rd Axis faction that's not Japan.
But I wouldn't really count on anything as far as Relic goes tho, that's also why I'm gonna buy DoW 3 only when it's on a giant sale, as well as AoE4 and all of their future games, if they're even worth it that is. |
