it takes longer for the vicker to suppress than the mg42. The "2nd burst" for a vicker takes a pretty long time considering the vicker fire a longer burst.
the vicker trade suppression for damage. At best it's equal to the mg42, not better. I would argue that the trade is actually a disadvantage since the mg42 is great at both killing and suppressing. With the vickers, half of the time it got naded by a suppressed volks or grenadier.
a mg is a crowd control tool. Without good suppression the vicker make for a poor crowd control tool. Even if the vicker kill faster than the mg42, it's still not enough to effectively stop an axis blob.
The vet ability for the vicker require a building or the british player to spend 50 mp on a trench. It's hardly superior to the cheap magic bullets the mg42 get.
In the early game when ever model loss counts towards setting the pace of the rest of the game, I find the Vickers very advantageous since it's capable of forcing mg42s off in a green vs green fight or structure vs structure |
Could you provide some specific reasoning as to why the Vickers should be more expensive than the HMG42? You've listed the roles the different HMG play, but not stated why the Vickers should be more expensive.
I genuinely curious to understand the justification.
Like I say the discrepancy bugs me far more than it should and I'd like to know why people think its acceptable.
I value it's stopping power against infantry. Killing infantry models directly translates to economic damage against the enemy. People also make it sound like the Vickers can't suppress for shit but I find it able to suppress on the 2nd burst most of the time. Plus once you vet it up it gets insane range. Use the engineers destroy cover ability to clear line of sight for Vickers in structures, and make trenches if there are no structures around

the .50cal is actually worth its price of 280mp. It has good damage, good suppression, and a fast pack up.
the vicker has to trade suppression for damage with the exact same setup, yet it's still 20 mp more expensive. The vicker needs to cost 260 mp.

Vickers - high dps, strong garrison bonuses, medium suppression, slow pack up
Mg42 - high suppression, good damage, slow pack up
Mg34 - medium suppression, low damage, low cost, slow pack up
Maxim - high suppression, no aoe, small arc, fast pack up
50cal - high suppression, good damage, medium arc, fast pack up
Each machinegun plays differently. I find the Vickers more than suitable with dealing with okw, thanks to their high kill potential |

It's because prepatch infantry sections were somewhat unbeatable in a 1v1 scenario if they had green cover, and because they were innately tank it was very easy for them to cross open cover into green. They also had a tendency to become undislodgable in the first few engagements if they managed to secure a vital house. Pair that with 16 damage per hit and very high rate of fire, you have an extremely powerful squad in the right hands.
Now their base received accuracy is in line with other mainline infantry, and they get punished more often when players choose to keep them out of cover. Dont forget that you also benefit from a possible 5th man as well. |
Oh LemonJuicyFruit, the question was if Relic intended to have blobs or this was not intended. Not if it was a prob...
its probably not intended but rather a product of players. people get lazy and find that its rewarding at times to just select everything and attack. |
