I have used Propaganda exactly twice and had no idea what it was doing.
I don't think any competitive player wants an ability that randomly suppresses, pins or forces a retreat. Random effects = bad. We need to know exactly what it's going to do for planning. Same reason Off Map Combat Group wasn't exactly spammed in competitive games, as it was such a gamble. I dislike gambling and neither I nor the Women's Temperance, Knitting and Quilting Society approve of it in COH.
I wish it was just a "goodbye blob" ability like in COH...
Strafe serves that purpose well, currently. As it says "Goodbye entire Soviet army and please check in again after 5 minutes."

Ya I lost to him doing this strat...But I think he messed it up a bit this game. I did the same thing vs. that Zero7 guy who's been streaming lately. But it is sniper-penal-NO car-then rush for M5 car with guards/sniper, then two t34s. I have no idea why he built two M5s, he had to know the PzIV was coming... In: Replays |

Hello Joe, here's our post. You can catch me on skype with the same nickname, and I also have a Vent server we can use. Let me know what times are good for you and get some replays up you'd like me to take a look at. As I'm running a shoutcast I may actually just go ahead and shoutcast one of your replays, which should be useful for everyone. In: Mentoring |
Thread: Dear Relic, can I have a word please? (Russian history)24 Jul 2013, 23:40 PM
This is going to be a thought-out and long post. You have been warned. I'll say, that even as a Westerner, the campaign left a bad taste in my mouth. I did not enjoy playing as the Russians, given how they are portrayed. Is that portrayal accurate though? Certain facts are indisputable, and the reaction to it is evidence that Russians are still trying to process their own history. Do I think Relic's portrayal is an accurate representation of what it was like to be a solider in the Soviet army? No, in fact. I think they went overboard with a typically Western perspective that shows how difficult this war is to understand, even today, for Russians and Westerners. Can anyone but a Russian understand what it was like to be fighting for the very survival of your country, while at the same time being led by one of the most brutal dictators of the 20th century? Did the average soldier consider Stalin to be a good leader (I think they did, actually) and the order 227 unnecessary and cruel? What was it really like? How can we even begin to understand this unless Russians explain? I think we just don't understand. I think Relic certainly didn't understand and bit off far more than it could chew. For Westerners, it is actually easier to understand Nazi Germany than Stalin's Russia. Sure, the Nazis were fanatic, genocidal xenophobes, but they did not kill blonde, blue-eyed Germans. At heart, they were nationalists, pure and simple. But Russians were killing Russians by the millions, all under the guidance of an equally cruel dictator, and they waged their war in a way that made clear the life of the individual Russian was worth absolutely nothing in comparison to the goal of winning and pushing back the Germans. We don't understand the collectivist mindset of Soviet Russia that led to the state of affairs portrayed in the game. We don't understand the continued Russian need for a strongman that has been commented on by many historians, and is still in evidence today with the popularity of Putin, despite his political machinations that have made democracy in Russia a thinly-veiled joke. Nothing Relic portrays in the campaign is wrong. But I sure as hell don't think they got it right either. The Russian soul is far too complex a subject for a video game. In any case, Relic would have been criticized however they handled the campaign: if they had papered over the war's realities, and made every Russian officer a hero, they would have been vilified by the Western press for avoiding order 227 and the barbarism of Stalin's Russia as well. Nice! Though I do not wish to see cuthroat competition for good replays to start...We're up to 3 new casters in the past week or so! It's good people find COH2 entertaining to watch, even with all the streamers. More people need to do 1v1, honestly it's not that hard if you have modicum of micro and I do think micro is quite a bit easier than COH1 what with the reverse button and the low-damage infantry combat. In any case, I would love to find a co-caster I think, especially for those 2v2s and larger games...so hit me up if you're interested, I'll check out yours, and check out Sluzcast. In: Lobby |

Thread: Tips for Improving Your Play23 Jul 2013, 13:30 PM
- Always use another unit to spot for your ranged unit. - Don't forget vet abilities. A Vet 1 Ostheer MG with incindiary will rip the very soul from a clown car and transform it into a shadow demon for your army. - Speaking of which, the vet ability on SU-85s that gives an even more retardedly long LOS is completely, utterly OP. - Bait your opponent into stuff. - Put mines closer to your side so you can finish off the thingy easier. - Shoot repair crews first as they magically become paper mache dolls while repairing. - the smaller the building, the more likely it will collapse. And don't ever put anything in that broken building south of the western fuel point on Oka River, and I mean never. - The proper counter to the Soviet sniper is the mortar, according to Relic. We apologize for the inconvenience. It will however force those chicks to move and stop headshotting your dudes. - Drop incendiary slightly behind the inf blob you want to go away. No retreat bonuses for flames. Oh and I think the multiple units capping faster mechanic went away in beta? I see no difference, and I always try to blob cap with 4 conscripts . In: COH2 Gameplay |
Thread: Kursk makes for some super annoying head games22 Jul 2013, 22:18 PM
So I recently cast a game in which CCart faced off against a bunch of AT guns and T-34s, and found myself in the same position but as the Soviet player. Given that flanking and maneuvering is somewhat difficult on this map, I had gone T70 as I wasn't really afraid of paks (and I knew where it was), and then much to my surprise, instead of a PzIV, out pops a Panther. So I try to ram the dork and use my at gun. Smoke is popped. Engine screeches to a halt. Oh well. G'bye T-34. Now what...I figure he's going to make more than one or do something sensible like make a PzIV so I'm not sure getting an SU-85 is the best idea. I've already gone Shock Rifle, as I kinda of like it on that map for some reason (flame barrage across an entire valley and obvious retreat paths anyone?) and decide I'm gonna have to get an IS-2. My T-70 eventually falls to a PzIv that swings around one of those damn bends after it gets fausted. Ok, got an AT gun and a half crewed 2nd one. Got a vet 3 mortar that I'm using the concentrated barrage ability on to kill his almost equally vetted mg and mortar. Got a stolen MG42. Now I just have to get the damn IS-2 so I can defeat these tanks... A real nailbiter...I got the IS-2 another T-34, rammed the Panther, mortared down the repairing infantry. Smoke is popped and I think I'm out of luck but the ram goes through! GG. All that for one game-ending moment which could have gone really badly for me if the PzIv had been there. Had to just wait and wait for the opportunity and gamble it all on one good moment...I really hate this map! But a good COH moment? I suppose. I just hate the way this thing plays. http://www.coh2.org/replays/5658/a-game-of-chess In: COH2 Gameplay |
