Permanently BannedMy screen name says it all. The pit will be destroyed in a few seconds even with "brace." The trick is getting the mg in position. You'll be surprised at the potency.

That is actually true, you can take them down to %10 health at close range and as soon as the brace period is over it will be destroyed by 1-2 normal MG42 bursts.

If you can get close enough to a mortar pit to place an mg42 then you are within range where its fairly simple to destroy anyway without. The bofor on the other hand...

Believe it or not, I've knocked out a bofors using an mg before. I spotted it getting built, was able to damage it so when it was finished building, health was only at 2/3, put my mg in a building and immediately used incendiary rounds, the bofors was gone in 6 seconds. I only lost 2 mg crew members

Good opponent will never make it possible for you to get your mg in position you want.
He will place it behind shotblocker and cover his flank with mines and possible even mgs and sniper. You will never be able to set up mg against good mortarpit opponent, believe me
