Quite simply: getting into transports is a huge pain in the ass.
Dawn of War 2 made some changes to make this work better. If I recall it was something like only one squad member needs to be near vehicle for the whole squad to get in.
Right now it simply takes way too long to get into vehicles and it's very unwieldy. If it were more responsive, we could see more transports being used to actually move infantry around.
It should be as responsive as evacuating a vehicle is.

Agreed, with the change to the way buildings work in this regard, they should change transports as well.

Agreed and pointed out since the beta (I still have a video I shared with Relic). Make it like COH1, as simple as that. Now if you try to get units inside a vehicle and before they complete entering into it you try to move the vehicle (e.g. trying to get in a Soviet M3) the vehicle gets stuck for a few seconds, very annoying ^^
