Even pre SF4 I don't think fighting games were dying namco, arc, SNK and others were still releasing games in the dry period post CvS2

I do believe Capcom have the biggest mind share with the greater gaming audience and the release of SF4 helped people get interested in the genre again or was their introduction into it.

Anyway BIONIC ARM!!!!

There are ways to play with a keyboard that actually aren't horrible. I actually prefer a HitBox-setup on a keyboard(that is, using Space as the Up-key) above a regular pad.
That, or a controller converter for a Xbox/PS3-pad doesn't cost much afaik.

I don't play that much SF4 myself though(prefer TTT2 and SFxT), and I'm fairly bad at it. I also get framedrops and stuff on PC. :V

Perhaps that would work, but after so many hours behind a xbox playing all kinds of fighting games I think I'm just to used to it to change. :p I never got a chance to play TTT2 (tho the first one makes me very nostalgic) or SFxT. I thought of getting the latter, but the animations just seem so... off. SF4's animation and movement looks so damn good, while everything looks a bit too flat for SFxT. I'll probably try to pick it up whenever the price drops though and I got time over. :)

Sadly, it often looks to me as if Street Fighter is the Starcraft of fighting game. As in it being many time more popular than other fighting games. So even though you could say that the fighting genre is still strong and point at SF, the rest of the current fighting games are a fair bit below.

The other games get good turn outs, and the popularity differs from country to country.

For example the top game in Asia is Tekken, in North America and Europe it's Capcom and South America it's SNK.

I really think this generation has the strongest line up of games and it's quite evident when EVO has eight main games this year.

If you like T3 I think you will really like Tag2, it's easily the best fighter out at the moment.

Yep, but i do not own PS3 and so am limited to what can run on PC. Honestly those fighting games are the only reason to get PS3, but as I spend more time in COH - do not see the deal to get a PS3 just for tag2

Tag 2 is out for Xbox as well, if you've got that.

I bought an Xbox last christmas mainly for fighting games, I don't regret the purchase at all.

It was a long time ago since I watched SF tourneys or followed the scene at all. (never followed it too close but used to watch through VODS of played tournaments, as well as following gootecks/crosscountertv on youtube) IPK, can you link or advice me were I might find some recent high level Abel play? Or is he still played by anyone on a high level? :)

Rico Suarez, Juicebox and Tahaa off the top of my head. I think he's quite good still. Not top tier but competitive.

Add Pikagoma and robin01 to that list for some good japanese ones. Robin especially was one of my favorites back when I started SF4 and wanted to try to learn Abel.

Abel is good. He's got awkward anti-airs, no good reversal move and his main bread 'n butter is a one frame link, but his mobility combined with his amazing damage and mix-ups makes up for it.

Sounds like not too much have changed (as I remember it he was always a bit in the mid because of his AA and one frame link) will try to check some of them out. :)

Change Viper, Seth and Fuerte so that they actually have to play footsies please.
On a more serious note; all they really need to do is to fix unblockables, slightly tone down some of the top tiers and give the lower tiers a little help, and everything will be fine.

I might get into SF4 again, actually. I was never any good at it in the first place, but I might just check it out again if it turns out to be good.
