CoH3 adding custom unit upgrades

Has anyone figured out how to add custom upgrades to units? I'm trying to add a Thompson upgrade for paratroopers and am having some trouble. I tried cloning the captain smg upgrade and adding it to the paratrooper sbps and changed the grid location to 1,3 so it should be below the m1919a6 upgrade but no joy.
