It was an OSS project that attempted to use cats to guide bombs into axis ships. The premise was that cats hated water so much that if you packed them into a control harness within a bomb they would instinctively guide the bomb onto the deck of an enemy ship to avoid getting wet. The project was eventually canceled when in testing the OSS discovered that cats tend to pass out from G-forces when strapped into a 500lb bomb traveling at terminal velocity. i never read about it . Thread: WW2 Daily Pic12 Mar 2015, 16:21 PM Bat bombs were an experimental World War II weapon developed by the United States. The bomb consisted of a bomb-shaped casing with over a thousand compartments, each containing an hibernating Mexican Free-tailed Bat with a small timed incendiary bomb attached. Dropped from a bomber at dawn, the casings would deploy a parachute in mid-flight and open to release the bats which would then roost in eaves and attics in a 20-40 mile radius. The incendiaries would start fires in inaccessible places in the largely wood and paper construction of the Japanese cities that were the weapon's intended target. In: The Library

Thread: WW2 Daily Pic11 Mar 2015, 21:58 PM North American Mitchell Mk IIs of No. 226 Squadron RAF based at Hartford Bridge, Hampshire, dropping 500-lb MC bombs over the Foret de Grimbosq south of Caen, in the evening of 12 June 1944. This operation was the biggest daylight raid mounted by No. 2 Group since 6 June, in which 90 aircraft bombed the 21st Panzer Division which was dispersed in the forest. At Courseulles, France wounded men are being transferred from ambulances to Hospital Tank Landing Ship LST 428 through its bow doors at low tide as the ship helps to transport casualties, including enemy wounded, from the battle area to the United Kingdom.
