This game wasn't even close to over until Quentin decided to drive his scout cars into the gaurds and pray that he could push them around so much they couldn't fire their PTRS.
No one said you couldn't build snipers or mortars... this sort of build had a really shitty mid-late game because you don't have AT nades and its really easy to wipe maxims since they are so slow to retreat.
