Prizepools just increased to €1300 and $1400 for monthly cups and increases across the board elsewhere, this was clearly in the making and it may be that Relic wanted to ensure they got the format right at first and only commit fully once they were confident they had.
Now the overall ESL offering is the biggest prizepool we've ever seen in CoH, I hope that excites people and gets them on board, cus the format is great and the level of competition is getting better all the time.
A_E, keep plugging!
If you get paid one day.....different story. Right now: keep plugging!
Yeah exactly, if I was paid up it would be tasteless I'd have to act differently, right now dya know what I'm gonna write subscribe to A_E on YouTube on my freaking forehead.
I personally find the use of ESL for promoting your own agenda a bit tasteless. There were occasions where DLC codes provided by Relic? were given to the first one doing something related to his youtube channel, like subscribing or posting a comment to one of his videos..
It's not tasteless to self promote once or twice for a few minutes during a nine hour stream of casts.
The fact that people have a problem with this and can't see that I've put hundreds of hours into tournament casting without expectation of payment has pissed me off, it was a few plugs of my YouTube channel.
I have a lot of respect for IpkaiFung - great guy who did a lot for the community in the past.
But this article, in my opinion, has come out at the exact wrong time.
Right now Relic have never been better in terms of supporting the community and competitive scene for Company of Heroes, even if they've been pretty terrible in the past.
Already with ESL they've shown a massive willingness to listen and get things right, and they've honed the rules etc. until they're now pretty damn good.
As one of the casters chosen to cast ESL, I feel that Ipkai's criticism of us working seemingly for free is misguided. We've received goodies from Relic around Christmas, and since ESL, and have been given a unique opportunity to promote our channels etc. so it's all good, and none of us feel exploited etc. It's a mutually beneficial arrangement that we're all completely at ease with, and have a great relationship with Relic's CM Kyle etc.
So yeah, understandable article, but an increasingly outdated viewpoint.
The only reason I knew it was even on yesterday was because HelpingHans mentioned it on stream, otherwise it's harder than it needs to be to find out information about when it's on.
Have you tried checking out the ESL website? Once you've spent 5 minutes on there it's quite useful. But yeah I do agree if you don't know where to look the info won't jump out at you.
